Cardinals RHP Isringhausen out for season
ST. LOUIS (TICKER) —St. Louis Cardinals reliever Jason Isringhausen will miss the rest of the season with a partial tear of the ulnar nerve in his right elbow, the team announced Tuesday.
An MRI exam revealed tendinitis and the partial tear. No ligament damage was found, but Isringhausen was told to rest and there is no timetable as to when he will resume throwing.
It is the culmination of a rocky season for Irsringhausen. The 35-year-old is 1-5 with a 5.70 ERA in 42 games this season and has twice been demoted from the closer’s role.
“It’s unfortunate,” said Cardinals starter Braden Looper, who allowed one run and three hits in seven innings of a 4-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. “He’s a guy that’s been here for a long time. My heart goes out to him because I know what he has had to go through this year.”
A 14-year veteran, Isringhausen is seven saves shy of 300 for his career. His last save came on August 1, when he threw 1 1/3 innings vs. Philadelphia.
