Report: Oswalt to Phillies

The Houston Astros have agreed to trade right-hander Roy Oswalt(notes) to the Philadelphia Phillies pending Oswalt’s permission, according to a report out of Houston.

Oswalt, who must waive his no-trade clause and could require the Phillies to make good on his $16-million option for 2012 in return, is the most coveted pitcher remaining on the trade market. Winners of seven consecutive games, a streak that has them within 3 ½ games of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East, the defending NL champions have lacked consistency in their rotation beyond Roy Halladay(notes) and Cole Hamels(notes).

Fox 26 Sports in Houston reported late Wednesday night that the Phillies and Astros came to terms on a trade and the Astros have contacted Oswalt. They await his decision, according to the report.

Oswalt is 6-12 with a 3.42 ERA in 20 starts for the Astros. He allowed six runs in five innings to the Cincinnati Reds in his last start and seven hits in four innings to the Pittsburgh Pirates in his start before that.

In fifth place in the NL Central, the Astros are looking to rebuild, and have also considered trading first baseman Lance Berkman(notes).
