Mike Cameron: Files for Free Agency

  • Print

Update: Cameron filed for free agency on Thursday.

Recommendation: Cameron is likely not heading back to Milwaukee now that they have traded for Carlos Gomez(notes). He likely won’t have a problem finding work elsewhere, though, as he still is strong defensively in CF and an above average hitter for that position.

Yes, pitching is a huge priority. This team can still hit. Losing Cameron's whiffs won't hurt.

Who were you REALLY going to get for hardy? he's a nobody getting $4.65 million and a possible raise. You got the number 3 prospect in all of basevball from 3 years ago. Sometimes highly rated players need a change of scenery to develop, (see every Brewer ever traded except Greg Vaughn). Plus it saves us an extra $10 million from not signing Cameron. Throw in Kendall's $5 million and that's $19 million to spend on pitching/catcher.

From Cameron to something even worse. The Brewers continue to make poor decisions. I find in hard to believe that the best you could do for JJ was carlos Gomez. His on base percentage is awful, and he cannot hit his way out of a paper bag. Put McGhee at second, Gamel at third, and Rickie in Center.

It would be ashame if they give up on Gamel this quickly. What the Brewers should have attempted was a trade for a catcher, especially a disgruntled one like Jason Kendal of Pittsburgh. Jody Gerut wasn't doing that badly once given the opportunity, and was affordable. Outfielders are easy to come by, skilled catchers with power, average, and speed are not.
