Cardinals place OF Wilson on DL
ST. LOUIS (TICKER) —The St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday placed outfielder Preston Wilson on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right knee.
Wilson is batting .219 (14-for-64) with one home run and five RBI in 25 games this season. In 13 major league seasons with six teams, Wilson has a .264 batting average with 189 homers and 668 RBI.
The Cardinals purchased the contract of outfielder Ryan Ludwick from Class AAA Memphis to fill Wilson’s spot on the 40-man roster. Ludwick is batting .340 with eight home runs for Memphis and leads the Pacific Coast league with 36 RBI and 27 runs.
The team also purchased the contract of pitcher Brian Falkenborg from Memphis and optioned pitcher Dennis Dove to Class AAA. Falkenborg leads the PCL with nine saves
