Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira takes swings in a pool
NEW YORK (AP)—Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has taken his first swings—in a pool—as he ramps up his rehabilitation from a wrist injury.
Teixeira says the progression to playing in rehab games will be a slow one but he still hopes to be ready within the initial prognosis of eight-to-10 weeks for recovery from a partially torn sheath in his right wrist.
Teixeira swung in chest-high water Tuesday after receiving clearance and he was scheduled to take swings in the cage Wednesday without facing pitching.
Out since injuring his wrist with the U.S. on March 5 before the World Baseball Classic, the Gold Glover says he is very encouraged by his progress.
The switch-hitter says he’ll have to do all drills from each side of the plate.
