Chance of showers for Game 1

  • Print

NEW YORK (AP)—There could be more soggy weather in the Bronx for Game 1 of the World Series.

John Murray, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says there’s a 30 percent chance of showers for Wednesday night’s opener between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees. The gametime temperature is expected to be about 47 degrees.

Game 6 of the AL championship series was pushed back a day to Sunday after rain soaked Yankee Stadium on Saturday night. New York beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-2 to advance.

Murray said Tuesday the forecast for Game 2 Thursday night calls for mostly clear skies and a low of 48.

Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday night in Philadelphia.

Post 35....I don't think you have the slightest idea who will be watching the series. The Yankees have fans all over the country and they also have haters like you all over the country and both will be watching. and about the money thing.....Here's something for you to think about everyone elst whining about the money.

"I got one for you retards that think a salary cap should be put in place. How about this.....A SALARY MINIMUM ! That would either keep your cheap owners from pocketing all the profits and luxury taxes that the Yankees send your way.........or it would drive your cheap @#$ out of the league and we wouldn't have to hear about it any more."

    Thanks for playing.........

i'm a Yanks fan, and I hate to say this but the Phillies are going to win.

starting pitching: yanks, but not by a wide margin
    bullpen: yanks
    batting: toss up
    speed:phillies
    infield:yanks
    outfield:phillies
    manager:phillies

Oh i forgot one more thing and a very important one: We still have A-ROD, and he is a curse! This alone outweighs most of everything the yankees have going for them.

So it pains me to say this but phillies in 6.....i hope i am wrong big time on this one!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yanks are a disgrace to sports everywhere. They fight to avoid an even playing field, because they know they can only win by having an outside-the-field advantage. They and their fans are not fans of sport.

the rich team does not always win but if you look at all the wins the yankees have, and look at their $ its abvious that the riches teams do dominate. And, it is only about money not sports.
The yankees do ruin the sport because the are just a buisness. nobody west will even watch the series.

well first of all ou all seem to forget that the 2 best teams in baseball have made to the seris, now if you look at the long history in the yankees, they have done what no other team can or will ever do, they won so many pennets, and world championships, i grew up in philly and have always been a phils fan , but also i am a yankees fan, im very happy to see them both play, as for the winner, i can not say for sure but it will go 7 games, so i say sit back and watch the show, and i will be back after the 7th game, have fun and enjoy,

Yankees in 5. Philly pitching can't compare to New York pitching. It's not even close. The Yankees have the better rotation and bullpen. They also excel under pressure like no other team. They have no weaknesses and if one player slumps, the rest of the lineup performs higher for him. This is a team that nearly mirrors the '98 dynasty Yankees and the Phillies, well, they don't suck, but they can't outplay the Yankees. Not this year. Not with the lineup and pitching staff the Yankees have accumulated. Adios.

    a few things to consider
    The Phillies won last year
they played in Yankkee Stadium earlier in the year and played well
they play very well in their home ballpark
they have more speed than the Yankees and the Angels
There front line pitching is fine, don't give up on Pedro just yet
I think the Yankees have a hugh advantange in having the last 2 games at their place
I think it goes 7 and anthing can happen
    I hope it is entertaining
one last thing any well respecting Met fan is really torn on this one........who do you hate more......
I hope the Phillies win !!!!!

The wimpy schedulers should tell the networks that they do NOT get to dictate when MLB games are played. It IS possible to come up with a regular season schedule that would allow the World Series to play before Election Day. (I wonder if nowadays Reggie Jackson would be Mr. November).

hell - i know it will never happen, but i'd even be willing to cutout the who-cares, out-of-date All Star game to have a more compressed season which doesn't include SNOW days.

I have been a baseball fan since the early '50's. It is not the Yankees fault. Three things have happened that have changed the face of baseball and made it less than it was. 1) Free agency - In olden times you knew who played for which team year in and year out. 2) The player's union has become the force behind every negative thing that has happened. Refusal to release the steroid investigation results, refusal to accept salary caps. 3) The DH. I am a fan who believes that the pitcher should have to be in the lineup. The DH has destroyed a huge amount of the strategy that managers were paid to figure out before. What we have as a result of all these things is players who can't hit .250 making millions every year, and has beens hanging on to their "career" while being paid to swing a bat and not even try to play anymore. The other thing that is gone from baseball is the battle between batter and pitcher as to who owns the plate. Now a days getting brushed back is cause for someone starting a fight. Gimme a break. A little chin music back in the game would make it better. People used to get knocked down all the time and simply took it as part of the game. Last year one of the players (I forget who) was at the plate and the pitcher slipped and threw a ball behind his head. He gestured as if to say "If you are going to throw at me, throw at my ribs". Had I been that pitcher I would have stuck a fast ball right in his rib cage on the next pitch.
So much for the grand old game.
By the way, Yankees in 5. The Phils don't have the pitching depth to compete, and it isn't about money, it's about talent. AFter Lee, there is no one who can even hope to beat the Yankees.

Why do people moan and groan about the Yankees money? Who says free agents have to go to the highest bidder? Why don't they take 20 mil instead of 40 mil and stay in the organization they came up with? Well of course they go get the money theyd be crazy not to. Of course you out-bid other teams if u got the money, you owe it to ur fans to field the best team possible.

The Yankees should be the last to get blamed. How about blaming the players for being greedy and lacking loyalty? How about blaming the players for having such a strong union and fighting against salary caps. Yankees are just trying to field a winner for their fans. Blaming them is silly.

next year, the yankees are putting the umps on their payroll so they can win 162 games, plus the playoffs and world series, in 4. Money is no object to them, they have and will continue to ruin baseball.
