Mom of former major leaguer Zambrano kidnapped

  • Print

The mother of former major leaguer Victor Zambrano(notes) has been kidnapped.

Zambrano’s agent Peter Greenberg says Elizabeth Mendez Zambrano was abducted Sunday morning from her son’s farm near Maracay in central Venezuela.

In Venezuela, which is home to dozens of major leaguers, the families of wealthy athletes are periodically targeted by kidnappers. Rockies catcher Yorvit Torrealba’s(notes) son and brother-in-law were released by kidnappers a day after they were abducted in June.

Zambrano played seven big league seasons for Tampa Bay, the New York Mets, Toronto and Baltimore. The right-hander has a career record of 45-44 with a 4.64 ERA.

He hasn’t appeared in a major league game since 2007.

Colt- This may surprise you, but some people are BORN in other countries outside the United States. It's not exactly easy to legally migrate to popular countries. Some people do whatever necessary to leave unsatisfactory conditions, hence illegal immigration. We all know how Americans feel about that.

When you live in a sh*t country run by a corrupt and malevlolent dictator...you tend to have this happen. Don't live there, it won't happen.

It is sad that there is such a low regard for human decency in so many countries. This should never happen, no matter if Zambrano did anything to provoke someone or not. I can only hope his mother is returned safe and sound and can get any assistance she may need to get through this ordeal. Anthony, you and all the other people posting negatives about Zambrano as a player are the sort of slime that takes courage from hiding behind the anonimity of the internet. Whatever you thought of him as a player, this should not happen to any human being, not even you.

Really, Art? I'm so glad you are astute and pointed that out, because I'd never come up with that on my own.

I did state that I know he won't be reading our comments (hence "I hope you somehow still know...."). And I'm glad, because there are some idiots on here. The worst ones are those who think this is an appropriate time to joke about the man's perceived shortcomings (mind you, none of the critics have ever even signed a pro contract, let alone ever had a major league career).

But I'm sure you missed that this time, too. Just like you missed my name. Some people are like neon signs advertising their mental oblivion. And so many are posting here.

I say when the offenders are caught, their minimum punishment should be castration and they will never commit a crime--we know that for a fact, but we would never do that because it would diminish the very profitable "industry" that is the penal system. I know Venezuela does not follow our mandates but they have to do as their neighbors do.

if you saw a women getting a beating by a few men ( even if you think its her fault ) you would just stand there and
watch like a coward huh? and if he did something wrong then punish him
not his mom, is that the kind of man you are ? who care's what happened , the guys mom
was taken plain and simple.that's what's wrong with some people ,they just don't care about others and like i said if that's how you were brought up then i feel bad 4 you bro. my 15 year old son was reading this and asked if this is what he had to look forward to in growing up . so go ahead ant and make fun of other unfortunate people . i just hope your kids never learn your true colors . ( run and mind your business huh ) good luck to you . besides the MET'S WILL ALWAYS SUCK AND SO WILL ANY1 WHO THINKS LIKE YOU .

Hey anthony. You have the makings of a judge. That is what you should study to be. Get those credentials man. You have absolute lack of compassion for the victim and are certain it will never happen to you. Just don't visit Venezuela, Colombia, Honduras, Nicaragua, Peru or Costa Rica and you will be safe. But in 20 years or so, we will have the same here. Don't punish criminals and that is what you get.

    your comment of:
"i truly pray this resolves safely for the innocent parties. And hopefully the selfish ones learn some compassion from this."
how do you know Zambrano wasnt doing some crooked $hite and this is a way to either get his attention or have him learn the consequences of making bad decisions or bad business?
you only know that his mother was kidnapped and wealthy major leaguers live there and are targeted. get BOTH sides of the story before making a conclusion.
me, i dont need both sides i dont care either way its got NOTHING to do with me!
