Twins exercise 2011 option on Cuddyer
MINNEAPOLIS (AP)—The Minnesota Twins have picked up outfielder Michael Cuddyer’s(notes) $10.5 million option for 2011.
Cuddyer hit a career-high 32 home runs to lead the team. He also had 94 RBIs and was sixth in the American League with 73 extra-base hits.
When slugger Justin Morneau(notes) went out with a back injury in September, Cuddyer moved from right field to first base. He hit .352 with seven homers and 22 RBIs in the next 19 games as the Twins leapfrogged the Tigers and won the AL Central title.
The option is part of a contract Cuddyer signed in 2008. He will make $8.5 million in 2010 and be paid $33.5 million over the life of the four-year deal. If the Twins had declined the option, they would have owed Cuddyer a $1 million buyout.

You bought the title. Anyone with only a little knowlege could have managed that team, no disrepect to Joe (loved him as a player). With a coupe of breaks in that series the Twins would have been in the World Series. Cuddy is one of the team leaders and had quite the season so I am glad we signed him. Nick Swisher sucks and I wouldn't sign him for 1 million. Mauer will never sign with the Yankees! You can take that to the bank, I just spoke with him yesterday. Go Twins. Oh, Bobby is not a better hitter than Cuddy.

Based off of the 32 players listed on the teams roster on the Yahoo! MLB Team page (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/min/roster) -
20 for sure - with 16 of them coming via the draft. 4 acquired from other teams and brought up through our farm system... I'm sure there are probably a couple that I don't know of...

The Twins caught the Tigers, and it might have taken up all their reserves of strength. They played okay against the Yankees, but they might have just run out of gas. They did not lay down and quit. They gave it their all.

Punto is a defensive replacement, end of story. Gardenhire's fascination with him is creepy. Wish Casilla would blossom.

I'm not from NY...just a neutral observer of baseball. BTW, how did the Twins do against the Yanks? They got swept. They have no bullpen, they have no decent starters. 10.5M for a starter would be MUCH BETTER than spending it on Cuddyer. swisher made 5.5M. I'd rather have 5M to sign someone else with swisher than a Cuddyer. Remember, the angels signed Abreu last winter for 5M. Abreu is a much better hitter than Cuddyer. Twins have no money....stop overspending on mediocre players. I bet Cuddyer injures himself and the Twins are looking to unload him at the trade deadline, with no takers because he sux.

No Farm system? You mean like Jeter, Pettitte, Rivera, Posada, Cabrera, Cano, Gardner and many others? Plenty more coming pal.
Bad manager? Girardi managed the Florida Marlins for one year iin 2006, Awarded Manager of the Year in the N.L. His second year of managing was 2009 for the Yankees. He won 1003 games in the regular season, the most in MLB. Then he wins the World Series. Not bad for only 2 years managing, don't you think? Who has done better?
Nice post, DUH.
