Torre happy for Girardi, Yankees

  • Print

NEW YORK (AP)—Dodgers manager Joe Torre says he was pleased when successor Joe Girardi and the New York Yankees won the World Series this month.

Torre managed the Yankees for 12 years, leading them to four titles before leaving after the 2007 season. Girardi replaced him and led New York to its 27th championship this year.

Speaking before his foundation’s annual gala on Friday night, Torre said it was “surreal” watching the Yankees face the Phillies in the World Series. But he was happy to see some of his former players earn another title.

Torre and his wife, Ali, created the Safe at Home Foundation to fight domestic violence. He says it means a lot that the same people choose to attend the dinner every year and it continues to be successful.

Am I reading this correctly? Joe Torre is happy his Dodgers didn't win the World Series? He wanted the Yankees to win the whole time so he lost on purpose to an inferior Phillidelphia team?

Torre is a good guy, I respect him. One of the few guys from the Yankees past/present that I do. Why someone would ask him about the Yankees winning the World Series 2 years after he was f*cked over by Steinbrenner is beyond me. That was a ridiculous waste of time by that reporter.

The Dodgers should fire Joe Torre and try him for treason after releasing this statement.

They were deep in pitching, it was just all bad pitching after Lester and we almost broke his leg. Just like the Phillies, deep in pitching, just bad pitching after Cliff Lee and we got him in his second start as well.

Guess that's why the Yankees are the World Champions of 2009.

Hey Cole....nice pasting on Phil D saying the Sux didn't have to bring in a 1st baseman to pitch because they are so deep. Well he was right though. They did bring in RF van emery for .2 innings, and SS Green for 2 innings at some point during the season. I remember how those biased announcer on ESPN kept saying how deep the Sox were in Pitching, but I never saw it. Did you?
