Tigers: OF Thames, C Treanor to become free agents
DETROIT (AP)—The Detroit Tigers have removed outfielder Marcus Thames(notes) and catcher Matt Treanor(notes) from the roster, clearing the way for both players to become free agents.
Thames, a Tiger since 2004, hit .252 last season with 13 homers and 36 RBIs in 87 games. Treanor played in four games before undergoing surgery on his right hip April 30.
The Tigers also said Friday that infielder Michael Hollimon’s(notes) contract has been outrighted to Triple-A Toledo. The club purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Jay Sborz from the Mud Hens and reinstated right-hander Joel Zumaya(notes) and infielder Jeff Larish(notes) from the 60-day disabled list.

Bless You Boys

Bonderman is a great pitcher! Im sorry he got hurt freezerburn, but thank god YOU arent the GM, you would deal bondo to the friggin white sox so he could beat us 5 times this year!
You just stay where you are and leave all the baseball thinking to those of us who actually know something about it!
Go Tigers!
(Wish we had Jair Jurjens back..... BAD GM for trading him away for .... Edgar Renteria???? What were you THINKING!)
Still, Verlander, Jackson, Porcello, Bondo.... I'll go to battle with those guys any day! We just need to shore up our hitting!
I love how Laird handled the staff last year, but we REALLY could stand more punch from the offensive side of the catching position. Mags is going to bounce back in a big way to form a great one-two punch with Miguel.... what we really need to worry about is replacing PAULLY!

You don't trade away or cut potential number one starters, especially when they will probably be slotted number 4 in the rotation behind Justin Jackson and Porcello. How soon they forget about workhorses giving 200+ innings year after year after year.
I'll tell you what: Actually WATCH some Tiger games this year, read up on how the game is played, just, over all... try to get SOME kind of intelligence with regards to major league baseball, AND the Detroit Tigers.... THEN come back here and try to say something intelligent. I am afraid you sorely missed the mark this time!
Verlander (Maddux)
Jackson (Glavin)
Porcello (Smoltz)
Bonderman (Avery)
I like the sound of That!
I would like it even better if Jair Jurjens was in the middle of that group :(.... friggin Edgar Renteria.... DOUGH!

The Tigers have not had a winning mentatlity since the early days of Sparky, and when you look at the current motley crew of players, the only difference makers I see are Verlander and Cabrera, with a possible going to Granderson. That's it. And the management? Leyland and Dombroski are hugely overrated...they had one season where the team overachieved and they have been living off of that ever since. It was a quirk. Leyland's decision making last year was embarrasing, and going with guys like Inge, Everett and Raburn as starters and Rodney even being on the roster is a joke.
Clean house now. The Tigers are going nowhere the way things are now....I truly feel there is absolutely no hope at the present time. Might as well clean house and go in a direction that might offer some hope down the road.
