Cook to skip scheduled start because of toe injury

DENVER (AP)—Colorado right-hander Aaron Cook(notes) will skip his scheduled start Tuesday because the Rockies are concerned their No. 1 starter’s jammed right big toe might become a lingering problem.

Cook said he would see a foot specialist on Monday. He is set to rejoin the rotation Saturday in Florida.

Manager Jim Tracy said there was a good chance either Josh Fogg(notes) or Jhoulys Chacin(notes) would start Tuesday against Pittsburgh in the place of Cook, but a final decision was dependent on how much one or both of the right-handed relievers were used prior to the Pirates game.

Cook, who is 10-4 with a 3.93 ERA, has dealt with some soreness in his toe for weeks but aggravated the injury while backing up third base Thursday against the Philadelphia Phillies.
