Matsuzaka called up to face Angels

  • Print

BOSTON (AP)—The Boston Red Sox have activated right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka(notes) from the 60-day disabled list for his start against the Los Angeles Angels.

Matsuzaka had not pitched since June 19. He was 1-5 when he went on the DL with a right shoulder strain.

Also Tuesday, the Red Sox gave infielder Kevin Youkilis(notes) the day off with back spasms. Victor Martinez(notes) was unavailable to tend to a family matter in Cleveland.

They changed Daisquay. You could see how easy the opponents were hitting his pitches when the 2009 baseball season started. Fastball right down the middle. Changeup middle of the strikezone. Curveball right in the wheelhouse of the best hitters the opponents had in the batting order. Sports and management had us believe he was lame and kept him off the team roster for all of June July and August. Ok 2 things. Daisquay was out of shape. 2nd They convinced him to change his pitch locations. That whole successful season in 2008 was his ability to hit the corners or not. The strikezone corners are any pitcher in baseballs strikeout pitch. And the umpire has everything to do with borderline whether its a called strike or a free base. Daisquay lived on inside/outside corners everytime he pitched in 2008. A lot of weak hits, a lot of base on balls, but a lot of Ks too because that is how he won so many games and the pitch count is why he was taken out in the 5th inning. In that complaint about management he was right when he said in Japan he had his own ways and they let him pitch as long as opponents were striking out. They couldn't touch his pitches in Japan and here though the umpires were allowing what could be called either way pitches for the hitters favor. So he threw to many pitches and walked to many batters. So they put him in rehab. Hes back. Daisquay is back. He settled for a change the mangement insisted upon before they put him back on the team roster. He is in better shape and the umpires are calling his pitches strikes because more of them are obvious to thier eye and so an occasional corner pitch is ok for them to call either way. Tonite was a great pithing performance and I would like to see Terry let a pitcher with a 2 or 3 hit game shutout into the 7th go every inning. Let the bull pen rest. Thats the way they used to do it anyway. I think Daisquay had a legit complaint during his rehab stint bout how they treated him. He is a natural pitching the corners but now hes right in the strikezone. And they changed him into an any pitcher any team. I always liked Daisquay and I believe his gyro pitch really was his out pitch but they dont admit that in the broadcast booth, Ha ha, fastball, curveball, slider, changup, forkball etc. They never recognized the gyro ball. Way to go Remy. Go Redsox

#184 Matthew P So you were not born in 1996, 1998, 1999 & 2000? Oh that's right you said "most of them". It took the Red Sox 90 years to win just 3 (1918, 2004 & 2007). This is 2009 and Red Sox are going no where. Deal with it.

it's amazing how easily some dismiss a ball player for a rocky start. so let's trade dice-k to the yankees so he can kick our red sox butts later. is that what u want? or are u going to see the bigger picture? a picture that goes something like this: get into the playoffs in any way u can. Get a rotation with HEALTHY players for the post-season, the rotation which may look like this: 1. beckett 2. lester 3. dice-k 4. wake if healthy or buchholz. for your information: dice-k has NEVER lost a playoff game in this country!! period!! big games like the WBC and the world series throws him into another gear.
