Rays to cut some 2010 tickets by 40 percent

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)—The Tampa Bay Rays say they are holding the line, and in some cases, dropping the price on nearly 40 percent of tickets for next season’s games at Tropicana Field.

The team unveiled its 2010 ticket structure on Thursday. Prices range from $8 to $175, depending on seat location, the opponent and day of the week.

Prices for some prime dates against opponents such as AL East rivals New York and Boston rose slightly.

Tickets will be available in five categories, with prices as low as $12 for more than 50 games and $10 for over 30 dates.

Nine weekend games against the Yankees and Red Sox will run between $20 and $175. Weekday games against those teams will go for $18 to $155.

The Rays will gain much more loyalty when they move OUT of St. Pete and into Tampa. I've recently heard rumors of a bullet train line being proposed to run between Tampa and Orlando. Perhaps St. Pete would be configured within that plan. The ONLY way to revive The Rays fan attendance would be to make that rail a feasible option to include St. Pete and/or build a new stadium that's much easier to get to for all fans. Obviously, Tropicana Field in St. Pete doesn't have the proper location to pull in the required support. Hopefully, one of the new stadium proposals will soon fly!!!!!!

I don't understand people who move to a new city and don't become a fan of the local team.

I'm from Philly and have been living in St. Pete since 95'. When the Rays played the Philies last year, I rooted for the Rays, when the Bucs play the Eagles, I root for the Bucs. The philly teams are still my 2nd favorite teams, but they are 2nd. I live here now. This is home.

I can understand maybe a year, or two, or even three, but if you've been living here for 5 years and you are a Red Sox fan, time to move them to 2nd and become a rays fan. Maybe if YOU went to more games than just Red Sox games doc source we would have a real baseball town loser.

Cut prices on nearly 40 percent of tickets? Or cut prices by 40%? There's quite a bit of difference btwn those two concepts...

good deal. Now all of you Yankee and Red Sox front running chumps will have to dig a little deeper to come to St. Petersburg and be Jerks. Maybe some of you will stay away and the real Baseball Fans can come and watch a game.

Can they get any cheaper? What else do you folks need to attend a baseball? Do you want them to pay you? Don't complain about the franchise not having money when you don't attend games.

Only reason I clicked on this was because I'm a Red Sox fan living in Florida. Looks like I'm going to have to shell out more dough because you morons can't attend a freakin baseball game even after your team made the World Series.
