Rays add 3 to 40-man roster; activate Pena from DL

  • Print

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)—Minor league outfielder Desmond Jennings and pitchers Jeremy Hellickson(notes) and Alexander Torres have been added to the Tampa Bay Rays’ 40-man roster.

The team also reinstated first baseman Carlos Pena(notes) from the 60-day disabled list on Thursday. He was sidelined most of the final month of the season with two broken fingers on his left hand.

Jennings hit a combined .318 with 11 homers, 62 RBIs and 52 stolen bases for Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham this year.

The right-handed Hellickson was 9-2 with a 2.45 ERA for Montgomery and Durham. The left-handed Torres was acquired on Aug. 28 as part of the trade that sent pitcher Scott Kazmir(notes) to the Los Angeles Angels.

I, for one, real bad for Percy. He really was a big part of what we accomplished last year. A great clubhouse guy.
A real pro knows when he can't get it done anymore and won't hurt his team just for the sake of sticking around. He could have pulled a Clemens and 'roided up to last a few more years but he wouldn't do it. I was at the game last night and it was a shame to see him get lit up and then have the fans boo him off the field. You could see the way he was hanging his head that that really hurt him. Thanks for the memories Percy. Hope things work out for the best for you.

Rob and all you sox fans are morons.. You win one world series in what 100 years, and all of a sudden you feel like you have the right to talk smack! It only took us 10 years to get to the world series.. And how about Big Papi, he's on pace for like 4 HRs this year.. haha Nice.

Rays were a fluke last year....too many "career" years. I say that because the pitchers really were nothing special until last year and are proving it this year.
