OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)—Texas Rangers right-hander Kevin Millwood(notes) has completed enough innings to guarantee himself a $12 million contract next season.

Millwood needed to pitch 4 1-3 innings against Oakland on Monday night to reach 180 for the season and kick in the fifth and final season of his contract with Texas.

Making his first start since Sept. 12, Millwood gave up three hits in the first five innings as the Rangers took a 6-0 lead.

He hit Jack Cust(notes) with a pitch to lead off the fifth but then induced Mark Ellis(notes) to ground into a double play. He walked Eric Patterson(notes) but Bobby Crosby(notes) lined out to third to end the inning.
