Phillies decline option on Feliz
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—The Philadelphia Phillies have declined their $5.5 million 2010 option on third baseman Pedro Feliz(notes).
Feliz hit .266 with 12 home runs and 82 RBIs in 158 games for the National League champion Phillies this season. He’ll receive a $500,000 buyout.
General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. says he won’t rule out bringing back Feliz.
Feliz had the winning hit for the Phillies in the 2008 World Series clincher against Tampa Bay.

And to those of you who say baseball is more exciting and more runs are scored because of the DH... check the stats before you make stupid statements. Here they are for the last 3 seasons:
2009 - AL - 4.8 runs/game
NL - 44.4 runs/game
2008 - AL - 4.8
NL - 4.5
2007 - AL - 4.9
NL - 4.7
So scoring one extra run every 3 or 4 games is more exciting? Wow... you guys need to get a life. What's more exciting to watch is the strategy involved in pitching changes, double switches, pinch hitters.... this is the way the game was invented and ment to be played.

Thanks Pedro, for making our league better.

You will get a better argument/discussion with RedSox, BlueJays, Orioles, and other American League fans. You are wasting tme here, because we in the National League don't speak your language. If the American League really wanted to do something, they would advocate for the inclusion of the DH into the National League!!!

Just as I suspected, no baseball knowledge!!! Until the DH is allowed in the National League, the American League will always be a handicapped League, playing with a supreme advantage over the National League. I knew you couldn't handle the truth!!!
Continue to enjoy the handicapped American League, forever known as the junior circuit!!!
You're DISMISSED!!!

It's too bad that you can't deal with the truth!! You have all but admitted that the American League is Little League baseball!! Continue on with your childish rants. As I said, you're new to baseball, probably a bandwagon Yankees fan. You have added NOTHING to the conversation of baseball!!

I agree. This is not a year with an adundance of quality third basemen. The Dodgers need one. The BoSox need one. The Angels and Mariners need one.
Unfortunately some one had to pay for Phillies loss, and Feliz was bottom man on the totem pole.

DH or No DH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A DH, is NOT a pinch-hitter, and a pinch-hitter is NOT a DH!!!

That's not what I said!! What I said was this: Yankees regulars, 1 RBI, Matsui, 6 RBI. Why? Because Matsui is in the warm dugout, studying every pitch that Pedro threw. Matsui, isn't cold, Matsui, isn't beat up from playing the outfield, Matsui, is a a full-time, professional hitter in the DH spot. It's a huge advantage for the Yankees, and a huge disadvantage for the Phillies!! That was Matsui's position DH, all season long. The National League clubs do not have a full-time DH, so, any player that we put into the slot, would have been at a disadvantage, because he's not doing that everyday, and doesn't have the experience in the position of DH, most National Leaguers are inexperienced at being the Designated Hitter!! Most National League DH's are bascally pinch-hitters, and that is their approach to being a DH. Most pinch-hitters in the National League, are like relief pitchers, in that when they are inserted in the game, it is in an emergency situation: men on base, the club is behind, and the pinch-hitter; like the relief pitcher has to come through for the club, they are used to that situation; but; as DH's, they are lost, because sometimes the DH will come up with no men on base, and in the American League, those DH's are used to that, so they treat it as just another at-bat, some of them are not expected to jump start the offense. In the National League, a pinch-hitter is always expected to jump-start the offense, because they usually come into the game in a pressure-packed situation.
Again, the DH, as played in the American League, gives the American League an unfair advantage over the National League. The only way it can be remedied is for the National League to be allowed the privilege of the DH, or abolish it altogether. Also, because the American League pitchers don't bat, they suffer less injuries than their National League counterparts!! American League pitchers don't get injured running the bases, or trying to break-up a double-play, or getting hit with a pitch, or damaging their arms, from swinging a bat!!
I honestly don't know why it has gone on as long as it has, but something needs to be changed. Either make the DH legal for BOTH Leagues, or get rid of it altogether!!! Now, the American League has been using it for a long time, and they won't be willing to give it up, so it has to become legal for both Leagues!!!

But I don't like the move. Feliz was clutch most of the year. And yes, he lost some power, but his glove cannot be dismissed. David Bell anyone????? Scott Rolen was a treat defensively, but then, had a plethora of players at 3rd. So some consistency was nice. I DO NOT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH ADRIAN BELTRE, THat guy is garbage. Contract yr. player, and I want no part of him. Feliz is the best 3B on the market, period. Figgins is good, but a 30+ yr old lead off base stealer? Only goes downhill from there. And his bat does vanish in thin.....cold....air. Unless there is a player for trade that I cannot think of, I want Feliz back. And this lineup doesn't need a leadoff hitter. Rollins has been a 6-7 hole hitter his whole career. Put him there. OH, and you will see my distaste for Ibanez. Not a Burrell guy either, but Ibanez went from 30 to 37 in less than 3 months. Need someone else. Maybe one of the young guys...... But if one of the young guys, you may have to adjust the batting order below.
1. Victorino
2. Utley (Going by the Dusty Baker philosophy, best hitter hit 2. More ABs)
3. Howard
4. Werth
5. Someone else OTHER THAN IBANEZ, PLEASE!!!!!
6. Rollins
7. Feliz
8. Ruiz
9. P

A Corky...
That was a fluke. A million to one shot at the least. What amazed me was that the umps made a determination on it before the game started.
@ Ron H...
Too bad that Justin's head was not where that camera was. Ball would have stuck, and there would be no controversy.

The Phillies had home field advantage and no DH, just like all year, Correct? They lost 2 out of 3 games there.
The Yankees won the World Series. Stop making crazy excuses and deal with it.

I for one don't like the DH and would rather see WS home field advantage returned the other league every other year.

The NL team is usually inserting a 2nd teir player ( aka a non starter for both offensive and defensive reasons) in the DH spot and pinch hit situations, the AL teams have former position players that were really good hitters but are a liability in the field... do you see the difference?
