Mets’ Francoeur has surgery on thumb ligament

  • Print

NEW YORK (AP)—Mets right fielder Jeff Francoeur(notes) has undergone thumb surgery and is expected to be ready for spring training.

The Mets said the operation on Francoeur’s torn ligament in his left thumb took place in Atlanta on Monday.

Francoeur was injured while making a diving catch against Philadelphia on July 23. That was the game in which he lined to second baseman Eric Bruntlett(notes) for the second game-ending unassisted triple play in major league history.

The Mets obtained Francoeur on July 10 from Atlanta for Ryan Church(notes). He hit .311 with 10 homers and 41 RBIs for the Mets. Overall, he hit .280 with 15 homers and 76 RBIs.

Whoever wrote this column needs to get their facts straight. Francoeur hit into that unassisted triple play at the end of September, not July 23rd, moron! The Mets were off that day, and the Padres were playing the Phillies. Even if he had goofed and thought it was September 23rd, it wasn't, since that day was a Thursday, and the triple play happened on a Sunday. Pay attention to what you're writing. Probably some ignorant Yankees beat writer, that was asked to write a quick column about Francoeur.

psychump what the heck are you talking about
santana, pelfrey (really nice season last year, could grow better but some setbacks this year), perez (inconsistent but can be lights out- that's what omar was hoping for), maine, livan
i'm pretty sure at the beginning of the season, there would be plenty of teams that would take that rotation. also, there aren't many old players past their prime on the team, and those who are SHOULD be on the team (castillo really being the only questionable one). bench, yes, could be a bit better.

Church wasn't the problem. We traded sideways. I hope this works. Francoeur's young & ambitious.
    I like young...................

The Mets were terrible from day this year with a poor starting five, old players past their prime and a lame bench.Minaya is doing what Sabean did for years in S.F., plugging holes with old or lesser players, always a bad plan.

I am not a Met fan but they might have just made their best steal in years if Jeff can regain his confidence

I definately hope Wren isn't done...because Church is NOT the bat this team needs to get on a roll.

Maybe a change of scenery will help Francoeur and Church as well as the Mets and Braves.
