Mom of Yankees’ Chamberlain faces prison for drugs

  • Print

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP)—The mother of New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain(notes) faces up to 20 years in prison when she’s sentenced next month on a felony drug charge.

Jackie Standley pleaded no contest Monday to an amended charge of delivery of a controlled substance, according to court records. The 44-year-old Standley was arrested in May after selling a gram of methamphetamine to an undercover officer at her Lincoln residence.

Standley originally was charged with a Class II felony, which carries a maximum sentence of 50 years, but the prosecutor reduced the charge to a Class III felony. She’ll be sentenced Dec. 16.

Phone calls to a number listed for Standley went unanswered Tuesday.

The Yankees play Game 6 of the World Series against Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Hey Renae, why don't you tell us all one more time that your a drug enforcement agent! You should be ashamed of yourself wishing such a horrible thing as someone's child to become a heroin addict to teach them a lesson. If you do have kids, never say never. I'm sure that if God forbid it happened to you, with the position you hold, you would make dam sure that drug dealer would find his ass in jail. With your knowledge you should also know that drugs are throughout rehabs and crisis centers across the country not just jail. Drug dealers belong in prison! I have a family member in the DEA and I would love to get her take on your well wishes to AGGIE

AGGIE. your ignorant. legalizing drugs wont solve the problems drugs create. drugs are dangerous and deadly. the answer isnt legalize everything. marijuana should probably be legal, but i dont wnat meth, coke, heroine etc to be legal. what would that solve? if people could walk into a store and purchase 5 grams of heroine at wholesale prices theyd be dead in a week. i think its funny how your mom has obviously struggled with addiction and all u can say is legalize it. u obviously didnt learn from your moms experiences. i hope your kids become heroine addicts, maybe then youll learn.

TIFFIN UR CRAZY. I am a drug enforcement agent and if your friend had his phone monitored and a raid of his property there had to have been evidence of illegal behavior. you really think its bad luck that he is in federal prison? you really think a man is facing 5 years for making an off the cuff remark? the fact that u honestly believe a person can not only be suspected but charged with drug trafficing for saying "in this economy i wish i could sell drugs" shows your ignorance. y was his phone monitored in the first place?? and if they raided his home and found no drugs, paraphenalia, sales records or any evidence of drug activity he would not have been chraged. the D.A would not issue an arrest warrant for an innocent man who just made 1 sarcastic remark. GET REAL TIFFIN!!

The drug laws are HORRIBLE!! Drugs should be LEGAL!!! ........i hate the argument that if they were legal then more people would do them......nope the same people would do them.....the same GOOD people......and there wouldn't be such harsh and ridiculous punishment.......

I am so sick of this country's laws and yes I am a born and bred white hetero american male. We need some changes!!! Drugs are NOT the enemy!!.....the enemy is the laws against drugs!!

These laws CREATE the violence and robbery. If they were legal then people wouldn't have to sneak around and break other laws so they can get drugs. Sellers should be allowed to sell to users. It is already stimulating the black market economy.....why can't it stimulate the regular economy.....God knows it needs help!

Anyway, I feel real sorry for her. My mother was a victim of these stupid drug laws for 19yrs!!! I will never forgive this government for forming these laws!! I will always pray for them to change. In fact, maybe one day I will actually start a grassroots movement!!

The grassroots movement is already there. I can tell that by reading these postings!! I am glad so many people agree with me!!!

I wanted to say I believe that the drug laws particularly federal laws regarding sentencing are rediculous and are not helping in the war on crime at all. Someone near and dear to me is in fed prison now awaiting trial for "conspriacy to distribute cocaine" a charge that holds a minimum manditory sentance of 5 years. What did he do said to someone who's telephone was being monitored by the dea that becuase of the economy he would love to start importing drugs. after a raid at his home where no drugs or weapons where found he found himself in Federal Prison awaiting trial there is no bail in federal court either and it seems it can take up to 2 years for a case t go to trial "so much for the right to a speedy trial or inocent until proven guilty" the real kicker fed court takes nothing short of your ability to turn someone higher up than you in into consideration when determining a reduction in the manditory sentances so... who do you turn in when you only talk about wishing you could do something illigal to make money...no one there for say bye to the next 5 years of your life.... Talk about needing a new system

first off rosemarry, if my son or daughter is a meth head there r bigger issues than where they got the drugs from. iv been involved with the west central drug task force for awhile now and i will tell u first hand that prison does not work. addicts can still get drugs in prison, they meet new contacts for when they get out, they learn nothing about staying sober, its a complete wast of time and money. is our society so blind that we cant see the corruption. havent u ever wondered y low level inner city crack dealers get life but pablo escober was sentenced to serve time in a prison he built for himself. he came and went as he pleased, the people guarding the "prison" were escobars own henchmen. or how crime family leaders, mobsters, gangsters, (not "gang bangers" there is a big racial difference) serve 3 years then become "special informants" for the police, MONEY!!! every1 is dipping in the pot, but some1 has to go down. much easier to put raekwon from the bloods in prison for 3 grams of crack than some middle aged white man who is supplying raekwon. the system is unbelievably corrupt!

your all wrong. this stupid debate over humans vs dogs, drugs vs molestation. mike vick was charged with committing dozens of felonies over a 7 year period. animal cruelty, tax evasion, illegal gambling, illegal breeding, etc. the list goes on and on. drunk driving carries a lesser penalty because its normally an isolated inncident. there was intent and years of planning involved with the dog fighting. dante stallworth, no matter how u look at it had an accident. this was not his 5th or 6th offense, he did not aim his car at a human, and as harsh as it sounds, the guy darted out in front of him. in the state of florida it has to be proven that alcohol was the %100 cause of the accident. it was determined through eye witnesses that the victim was at fault. as far as drugs, the system is very flawed. our prisons are lettered with addicts, especially our womens prisons. %85 of all incarserated women are in for drugs. id rather leve amongst addicts than killers, molesters, or abusers. addicts need punishment yes, but they need help more than anything.

It's not the amount, it's the fact that she was selling the drugs. She's a drug dealer, I guess. Shouldn't a drug dealer be punished no matter who they are? Or do we have double standards for mothers of baseball players? If you do the crime, you do the time. Or legalize it. One or the other.

The irony is that child molesters rarely get more than 5 years.....yet they are the ones because of their sick actions against children, create the future drug addicts who then become meth sellers, prostitutes etc. This country needs to get their damn priorites straight.

I think drugger's should have some time in jail maybe to teach them a lesson. I can't understand why they would put someone in prison for 20-50 years, but they let these people that kidnap children and kill them only spend a few years in prison and then let them out undersupervison. THtat's whts stinks and is sooooo wrong.

20 years for 1 gram of meth -- a complete waste of taxpayer money. The court should mandate rehab under halfway house supervision. If she fails the program, she'll probably be dead in 5 years anyway from an OD. Prosecuting this case is a total waste of the courts' time and money.

You have to stop and ask yourself if imprisoning a human being for carrying around a substance (really, any substance unless they're going to kill someone with it i.e. nerve gas) is really practical, or if it is really archaic and immoral and most societies refuse to accept that criminalizing substances is what makes them so valuable and causes violence.

Harsh??? She is a mother, selling drugs. Yes, she may be a victim of drug abuse, but people c'mon, there have to be consequences to your illegal actions. I'm so sick of people claiming to be victims and using it to their advantage. She is an adult and knows between right and wrong and choose not to do so. What if it was your son or daughter she was selling to, how would you feel about it then?

20 years may seem too much for a drug deal but I know of a person that only received 7 to 10 years for distribution, producing it in her apartment with her children present and while she was pregnant with another and addicted to the product so what is a fair sentencing. I might add that this person only served 3 years and created another meth baby and still continues to use and distribute meth so where is the justice especially to the children.

I rarely post on these boards, but I gotta say....20 years for 1 gram of meth is just absolutely ridiculous. The Federal Government really needs to re-think drug sentencing for amounts of this size. That really sucks...

20 years for a gram huh? I think the fact that she's taking meth is punishment enough. That crap can and will destroy you. But 20 years for a gram, and she sold it at home (not in public or across state lines)? The hypocrisy in this country is astounding. Punish the source, not the user and middle-man. They're just trying to make a buck so they can pay for their fix. They need help, not jail.

    Souless,

You make a good point, you pay more than you get back, just like me. But why are you so angry at city people? New York "breeds rude, fat, lazy & incompetent people," and L.A. is full of "retards"? Well, if you're going to believe the worst about every place, then everyone in small towns is a drunken inbred bigot. These things just aren't true, as much as you might want them to be. You can find good and bad people everywhere.

P.S. You should update your profile. There are lots of hospitals in Colorado Springs. ;)
