Indians call up catcher Marson from Triple-A

  • Print

CLEVELAND (AP)—The Cleveland Indians have called up catcher Lou Marson(notes) from Triple-A Columbus and put him in the starting lineup against the Texas Rangers.

Marson was one of four players acquired from Philadelphia when the Indians traded 2008 AL Cy Young winner Cliff Lee(notes) and outfielder Ben Francisco(notes) to the Phillies on July 29. Cleveland also got right-hander Carlos Carrasco(notes), infielder Jason Donald(notes) and Class A right-hander Jason Knapp.

Marson played in four games for the Phillies in April, batting .235. In 91 games between Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Columbus, he batted .277 with two home runs and 33 RBIs.

Cleveland fans, you should hope that your team won't be like the teams that existed between 1960 and 1993. Those were no-so-very-good years, weren't they??

You'd hate to hear those old jokes like, "We are now arriving in Cleveland. Set your watches back 42 minutes."

Keep Martinez , Cabrera and Choo.
    Trade Lee and Sizemore.
Peralta and Garko aren't going to bring much.
WEDEGE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AXED A YEAR AGO.

Wasn't Herges as good as anyone in the Tribe pen? Typical Cleveland move.
I know Cleveland has had a lot of injuries but Wedge also has to bear a lot of responsiblity. It's time for a change.
We have a pretty good 2nd baseman in triple a but as long as Wedge is there Barfield won't get a chance.
Omar Vizquel is a smart baseball man. I think Cleveland would love to see him brought back to manage the team.

Sorry, but you cant place the all blame on Wedge or Shapiro, they're not out there pitching, batting or fielding. Yeah, they are the ones who will be fired because of the team not performing but i think some players on the team have basically given up on Wedge and/or Shapiro. I just cant understand how this team plays great one game and then the next game, they play like the "bad news bears".....its win one, lose one, win one, then lose 4 or 5 in a row. If someone should be fired, its Carl Willis.....how hard is it to throw strikes??.....make them hit the ball!!!.....if the guy cant pitch, send them down or release them and bring up someone who will get the job done, plain and simple.

"Weren't the Indians the team portrayed in "Major League" ??? Their ownership and staff appears to be taking the film to heart. "

That is one of the most ridiculous comments i've seen.....

Try looking at the Indians history from the 60's til '94, and then reassess your comment.

There has been alot of injuries this year but still changing the lineup every day and not letting players get comfortable in the lineup is stupid.I dont know if Shapiro is the problem or its Wedge and his coaches but they need a change soon or its only gonna get worse.

    "CC sucks-sucks"

It's always funny to watch bitter fans say retarded stuff like this and actually call themselves sports fans. If you have any opinions that are this ridiculous, please keep them to yourself. There is no definition of "sucks" that CC meets.

This is no surprise Carmona has really stunk this year. I think that he may be the next Dontrelle Willis. But I hope not. The real change needs to be the GM and Manager. They have not been very good at the players they have drafted as well as the players they have aquired in Free Agency. Kerry Wood, David Delluci and a few others have not turned out that well. Pavano and DeRosa have been decent and were low risk signing and trade.

It seems to me that Fausto's problems began in the ALCS when they were playing Boston. I blame CC Sabathia for sliming his psyche. Fausto was following CC in the rotation that year, and I think that initially, CC's regular season victories really helped Fausto - like playing golf with someone who is better, ups your own game. Even in the series versus the yankees - the famous swarming bugs game - Fausto was brilliant. The contrast between him and Joba on the mound was incredible. But then CC DID NOT GET THE JOB DONE. Josh Beckett won his 2 games, CC LOST his two games, and instead of the Tribe facing the rockies which probably would have resulted in a World Series win for the Tribe, CC crashed the team. Fausto is collateral damage. THAT is the psychological event that began Fausto's problems. That is what the Tribe needs to do for him - get him to grow up, be responsible for his own pitching, and like Wedge said, reach his potential. I know that history will repeat itself, too. If CC is in a position to determine the fate of the Yankees if they make the playoffs this year, he will crash the Yankees, too. Looking forward to that. CC sucks-sucks and never should have left Cleveland without delivering on his promise - a promise to deliver a World Series Championship to the City of Cleveland. That is what crashed Fausto's psyche, and that is where they need to begin in getting him cured, and back to winning double digits games ASAP. What is Kenny Lofton doing these days? The Tribe could use his presence as a leader to improve the rest of the team to salvage the season, and get them back to winning ways for 2010.

once carmona pooped an egg on tv during the run for the world series and experienced the ultimate collapse for any sports team, he just has never really shown up since.....maybe if we release more mites or gnats or whatever the hell they were that one game night?

I'm interested to see how Carmona is when he gets back, because Doc Halladay has been a BEAST ever since coming back from that demotion, I didn't even know that he got demoted until I read this, but you wouldn't know that with how BEASTLY he is, and Volquez had a great year last year, got off to a slow start this year, and now is doing better, but is on the DL right now, and Dontrelle Willis, he's been better this year than last, that's all that I can say about him, haha.

It's not Wedges's fault!!! Shapiro has put together a minor league team! They may even have had trouble being a .500 college team. Shapiro will not pick up veteran ball players with any good, consistent experience to lead the young guys! Worst pitching group and staff in majors!

Most of the players have promoted up through the mnors, and have stopped progressing!

Shapiro must GO!!!! Time for change now! Don't waste any more time!

    A Cleveland sports fan!
