Fired Indians manager Wedge starts final series

  • Print

BOSTON (AP)—A day after he was fired, Cleveland manager Eric Wedge looked to the future and said he’d like to manage again.

“I really haven’t thought a great deal about it,” he said Thursday before the start of the four-game series at Fenway Park. “Right now it’s hard for me to think about it. Yesterday was a tough day, to say the least.”

Wedge was let go Wednesday by Cleveland before the Indians finished the home portion of their schedule but is being allowed to finish the season,

“It was unique,” he said. “I felt like it was important to do it in Cleveland so everyone could have proper access. I wanted to know before Boston.”

Has anyone heard about the new minor league baseball team in Cleveland?

So the Indians had about 20% of the players on the roster from beginning to end of the season. Does it actually matter who the manager is? The team sucks...end of story.

Wedge is currently garnering no respect, has lost the team, and needs to go.
Shapiro consistently low- balls the Tribe every trade he makes, and needs to go.
But, unfortunately, until Larry "Jesse James" Dolan sells the team, nothing's going to change. He works the system to make money without having to pay to field a decent team. And when Shapiro trades off any talent we do have, he blames the fans for not paying good money to see his sh***y team! The fans in NE Ohio are some of the most loyal in the country, yet he has the balls to spit in our faces like that?! If you really want to make some money, spend the money for a contender! Remember Dick Jacobs?
It's been said before, but I really believe that instead of a salary cap in MLB, there should be a salary minimum to ensure that douchebag owners who have no business in the league don't continue to rip off their fans. Please Mr. Dolan, spend some money, build a contender that fans want to see, drive up the value of the team, and then SELL THEM TO SOMEONE WHO CARES ABOUT BASEBALL AND THE FANS IN CLEVELAND!
(As a Tribe fan for 33+ years, this sickens me. The Indians organization will not see another penny from me until Dolan changes his M.O. or sells the team.)

Wedge, pep talks don't work unless 1) You have something to say, and 2) Your audience respects you! Tonight's results should make it obvious where you stand in each category. You're a nice guy, go get a job somewhere where you can learn the little nuances of the game. Then try again in about 20 years.

Sh*tpiro, you're simply an idiot that proves the "Peter Principle." You should work for the government.

Dolan, there is a special place in HELL for profiteers like you. Not just because you've proven how sad and desperate the fans of Cleveland are but, how nasty you are about rubbing their noses in it. As a Christian, I believe in "Judgement Day" and we all will have sins to atone for. I pity you!!!

It's not Wedge's fault the entire organization is a bloody mess. Only team in Cleveland is the Cavs. Lebron owns Cleveland and Northern Ohio.

I never have liked Wedge but can't place all the bad times on him.The owner likes to watch are best players walk out for more cash or trade them away for players like Andy Marte. From top to bottom this team is set up to fail and will keep doing so as long as the Dolans have this team.

i heartily agree that NO ONE should buy tickets to any games until at least Wedge is gone. How many more years is it going to take to get a decent team on the field again. Get rid of Hafner, Peraulta and Garko. Dead weight!!! Sell the team, get rid of Shapiro, do anything to make me want to love my indians again!!!!!!!!.

Shapiro is a joke and he's making fans the punchline. He's in love with Wedge and somehow he has the Dolans by their packages. What a manipulator. Until he and Wedge are gone, Dolan won't see another penny from me. Thanks for killing baseball in Cleveland, Shapiro.

Explain to me why wedge thinks peralta is such a great player, PLEASE! I've seen very little, if any improvement out of this SS. Occasional hot bat at best. The indians ARE the major league farm club that supplies good players for the rest of major league baseball. Anyone happen to see the interview with Brandon Philips about wedge. That said it all. Winning begins at the top, for example, the Florida Marlins. Anyone care to recall that team? Winning the World Series and then most of their player traded away. Dolan does not want to win, my example proves that. Must be some kind of government assistance for having the worst baseball team in the majors. Either that or some kind of tax break. Thank God I in Columbus, I can travel the same distance south and watch a team that can win a few, or I can head north and throw my money in the lake. Hummmmm, what to do, what to do.

Anyone who says that Wedge is a good manager needs to open their eyes. It's obvious that the team is no longer responding to his leadership. I'll give him the injuries excuse to a point, but the management staff had to know what they were bringing out of spring training. The starting pitching, relieving and defense were all bad in spring training... yet, Wedge acts like he is surprised when we start losing?! And Willis? Don't get me started.
If this was a good management staff, things like defense would be getting better; yet we just get worse in every apect of the game. And his constant lineup/ position changes not only scream of panic, they also allow absolutely no chance of the team getting any kind of comfort where they are playing.
And if Shapiro is dumb enough to put his own a$$ on the line by constantly saying it's not Wedge's fault, then he needs to go too. Go to another team and trade all their talent away every year. I'm starting to think that losing Huntington to the Pirates was a bigger loss than I realized. The team's talent decisions haven't been the same since he left. Seriously, we trade DeRosa away for a rookie reliever? (And he hits the first 2 batters he faces for the Tribe, the first in the head. Nice.)
Just watch as the Tribe dumps everyone worth anything to us again this year... Explain to me why every losing season has to be a rebuilding season?!!!! It's simple... because ownership is gonna get it's money, no matter what. It's already been said, Mr. Dolan, but you have to spend money to make money.
