Renteria to miss the rest of the season.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)—San Francisco Giants shortstop Edgar Renteria(notes) will have surgery on his right elbow to remove bone chips and spurs.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said before Friday night’s game against the Chicago Cubs that he would like to see Renteria take care of the problem and start on a rehab program before the season ends.

Renteria was one of the Giants’ biggest offseason acquisitions, signing a 2-year, $18.5 million deal to replace Omar Vizquel(notes).

Renteria hit a career-worst .250 in 124 games with five home runs and 48 RBIs. He averages .290, almost 10 homers and 63 RBIs.

He is expected back for spring training.

Bochy should stay, great job with limited team.

But sabean's gotta go! look at the all bad deals in the last 3 years... klesko, roberts, aurilia, rowand, zito, winn, howry, fsanchez, randy johnson (300 wins OK but didn't do diddly for team), garko, renteria!

Only good things he did were bring on wilson, affeldt, sandoval, molina, and NOT trade timmy for alex rios. But not good enough in granbd scheme of things

we should now bite bullet and trade cain for some bats.

Why soooo much money for a player that needs surgery? Bone chips are something that would be a long term thing, not something that "suddenly" showed up in the middle of his two year 18 Million Contract? Don't we have team physicians to evaluate players BEFORE we give them these HUGE contracts? It's one thing to get hurt while you are with the team, it is anothe to COME to the team hurt!

Management, please do not go out and buy a huge bat for a huge contact only to have them have had their best years behind them.....Daaa,OOOOhhhhhh......!

Hear the silence? Its time for the fat lady to sing and the Giants to put their foam bats away for another year. Now we can listen to our announcers tell us all how this was a good season because this team was not picked to be in playoff's.
Problem with this is Giants never plan on being in playoff's but to make money and put a (quote) decent team on the field, this is what all losing organizations say each year. You will never hear crap like this from NY or Boston or STL teams who start out heading to a world series and anything short is a bad season.

The good news is Renteria is out for season and its to bad this didn't happen four months ago. To bad Rowan doesn't go out also as he is no help at the plate. For all the joking that we hear from our homer announcers how Rowand spends so much time in batting cage how can he be this bad at the plate, and the team is paying this guy something like $8 million.

The Giants need a bus to take all the players out that won't be back and that would be most of this team. A small cab would be enough for the keepers!

How many more seasons of the same front office and coachs and scouts with same bad results do we have to put up with?

The nice part of this team always losing is it doesn't force us to choose but for a couple weeks to watch 49ers or Giants.

TURN THE LIGHTS OUT THE PARTY IS OVER!

Expect a dratic improvement next year. There had to be a reason he went from a .332 Brave to a .250 struggling Giant. He has over 2000 career hits so he's obviously been doing something right for over 12 years.

Renteria was teriible this season. I can't believe Sabean signed him for 2 years at 18.5 mil per year. Renteria was likely not even worth this money when he was a consistent All Star earlier in the decade. The Giants still need to put up with this guy one more year since nobody in their right mind would trade for him. Another solid move by Sabean! Maybe this injury explains why Renteria stunk this year.
