Cubs call up Taguchi

  • Print

CHICAGO (AP)—The Chicago Cubs purchased the contract of seven-year big league outfielder So Taguchi(notes) from Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday before they played the Milwaukee Brewers.

Taguchi played 85 games at Iowa this season, batting .248. He signed a minor league contract in January.

The 40-year-old Taguchi has a career .279 batting average in 666 major league games with the Cardinals and Phillies. He’s played on World Series winners with both St. Louis and Philadelphia.

Taguchi gives the Cubs depth in center field after Sam Fuld(notes) hurt his right wrist making a diving catch Monday night. Fuld had an MRI on Tuesday and has been diagnosed with a strained thumb that could keep him out a week.

Im a cardinals fan but cant wait to see Taguchi play for the cubs against St Louis this weekend. Became a fan of his when he was used occasionally when he played as a cardinal. Of course ill be rooting for the cards but would love to see So play well for the cubs this weekend. For a 40 yo man this guy can still play well in the outfield! And I guarantee cardinal nation will receive this cubbie well when he takes the field this weekend.

whether the flubs are lovable or not is debatable. that they're losers is not. the curse is back on in full force, never to be removed, and stronger than ever.

this fat burrito eating idiot has to be a mojor disappointment to his teammates.he's already disappointed his fans.
that's what the cubs get for signing a pitcher to 136 million.
there is no incentive to stay on peak quality shape.
    the money is guarenteed.
within a few years he will need a sheep to finish the job after he drops the kids off at the pool.

"ushtate101", i know how you feel, today. sadly, as its our lot, next spring will unfold, and with it, hope. i personally feel cubs are more than a year removed from fielding a division winning team again, long and overpaid contracts for either average, mediocre or declining players, the farm system is spent, the relief pitching appears in ruins and we have no "for sure ace" to build around. that said, i have been a cub fan my whole life, i am 51 this yr...my father in mid 70s...and we wait, and wait, and wait. for all the times i said i'd "burn my cubs stuff or never watch another game", i knew i was lying. for all the ridicule we endure, the heart break we suffer, the times we question our own loyalty, we remain what we are, Cub Fans. One of a kind, unrelenting, thru all our trials, generally unwavering...(nuts?). i find that sometimes, only one thought gets me thru it all...if and when the Cubs ever do go all the way, what other fans in this world will even be CLOSE to experiencing the elation we would feel??? none. no question. and so it goes... keep the faith. a new owner must mean something...change is needed, no, demanded, lets see what form it takes in the next couple years...and keep hoping. My only other thought, is that this is Purgatory...God, i hope not. this aint the year, and i don't think next year will be it either, Cards look built to compete/win... i am happy i have no kids to "infect" with this silly belief in the cubs~sigh~

CUBS=Completely Useless By September. What do you mean? The cubs stink every year, last year was the icing on the cake! I am truly blessed to be a 3rd generation Cards Fan. None of you Chicagoans will ever know true happiness or what it's like to be at a World Series game to witness the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP of your team! Sorry to interupt, you can get back to grieving now.

I've been a Cubs fan for over 30 years. But it's over. If the Cubs had the aura of "loveable losers", the loveable part is totally gone. I can't find anything loveable about the guys on this team (except maybe Lee). I surf away from SportsCenter when Cubs stuff comes on.
ANY GOOD SUGGESTIONS FOR A SOLID TEAM TO REPLACE THE CUBS? I"m quite serious about this.

Some of you who posted negative comments about the Cubs here do not even know baseball ok! Yes I agree the Cubs stink this year but blame should be place on Jim Hendry. He is the one who gave big contracts to Soriano, Bradley, Gregg, and some other players. he is the one who let DeRossa go and did nothing to try to get Matt Holiday was avail. As for Lou? Yes he should retire because the Cubs need a manager with some passion and intensity. I think Bob Brenly should be th bext manager with Sandberg his bench coach. As for Ricketts who is buying the team? Do us all a favor and allow someone with the money to but the team and do something for us fans. You have ruin our season with your beef while buying the team.

I have a bunch of cubs fans that are friends of mine (and relatives) when they were in first for a day or two i got a lot of phone calls "the cubs are in first place" and "we have more fans" but now i don't get any of these phone calls. Come on cubs fans at least you still have the "more fans" arguement and the media coverage. Carrie jump on the white sox bandwagon we'll accept you over here we never get let down because the media always downplays our talent.

The cubs screwed up drafting this guy in the first place. Especially in the first round. And the signing bonus they gave him was really stupid. I watched him a little last night and he has no command. I thought he was a 96-97 mph guy? Last night he was 93-94.

I think soriano stinks. he could leave his little hop out of the equation and start really trying to get some of those fly balls coming his direction. he doesn't seem to be putting any effort into playing big league ball.
de Rosa never should have been traded. we had a good team last year even though they forgot how to play ball when they got to the playoffs, but then again what is new if the team doesn't show up to play the manager forgets how to manage. i am so ready to give up on these happless cubs and start rooting for the white sox.

Screw the cubs they blow ball sack. The fans are the worst. I hope they never win. Lou needs to retire the game has passed him bye. Cards are a better club top to bottom. Im tired of the media always saying the cubs are the better team. Who honestly would you take in their lineup over the cards. With the way Wain and Carp are going I would take the rotation too. Face it cubs fans the window has been officially CLOSED

I disagree with post #24. I liked what I saw from this guy. I think somebody needs to work with him on his delivery. His problem is mechanical. He needs to watch old tape and try a Jim Palmer style delivery. If he gets that big frame moving in a fluid motion with the stuff I saw last night he could be a solid if not outstanding pitcher in the future.

This season was over as soon as Henry traded DeLaRosa and signed Bradley & Gregg. Under .500 shouldn't come as a surprise.
