Cubs active Johnson, give Colvin first start

  • Print

MILWAUKEE (AP)—The Chicago Cubs have activated outfielder Reed Johnson(notes) from the 15-day disabled list and called up former first-round draft pick Tyler Colvin to replace the suspended Milton Bradley(notes) on the roster.

Johnson went on the disabled list on July 30 after breaking his left foot when he fouled a ball off of it the previous day. Johnson is hitting .252 with four homers and 20 RBIs.

The 24-year-old Colvin was drafted in 2006, but needed reconstructive elbow surgery in 2008.

He was called up from Double-A Tennessee and made his debut in center field against the Brewers on Monday night after Bradley was suspended for the season for critical comments about the organization.

The team designated right-hander Thomas Diamond(notes) for assignment.

Hello! about BRADley! About time! Also what about Miles? Hitting .179 What are we doing with him ? He can"t even see the ball. swings at pitchs that are balls all the time send him some where any where but with the cubs We need some ball players that want to win & do the right things to win

Baseball fans have a right to blog idiots or not, besides who are those to tell bloggers what to watch or not. Bloggers form their opinions based on what they see hear whether it be on TV, radio, newsprint or the internet. Keep on blogging, because I for one is interested in other folks opinions.

I have been a die hard Cub fan for 45 years, because at the least the past Cub teams were what appeared to be team players. This year however, that team spirit seems to have broken down. I attribute this sorry scene based in pertinent part to the lackadaisical Pinella and his old dog coaching staff, which also lack the huevos to control the prematurity attitudes of Zambrano, Bradley, Sorryano and the other syhtheads that whine over a little bruise just to get placed on the DL.

If Trammel, Santo, Banks, Maddux and Sandberg could take over the reigns now! I guarantee you that "they" would shape up the abnormalities that currently exist with this sorry state of affairs that currently exists with this 2009 Cub team.

Maybe we need to boycott Wrinkley Field so the Cub organization does not get our money to squander on the ridiculous salaries that they pay to players like the ones I mentioned above and hopefully just hopefully force upper management to make better decisions in acquiring players that are good, young loyal players to the team.

Forget Lou doing something to motivate. That was just a fluke last year. I'm sure he'd say the same. Great to see Harden, but pitching is not the problem. Everybody is down this year and that's how baseball goes. It's a game of streaks. If you fail to hit safely 7 out of 10 times, you're a good hitter. If you fail 8 out of 10 you suck. Not much room for error. The fans need to stop crying for De Rosa ( I was a big fan ), he's gone. The team got good prospects for him though it hurt to loose a multi-position hitter. Not only Bradley has disappointed but Sorieno, Theriot, Lee, Soto, Fontenoet, Johnson, Hoffpauir, Scales, Miles, and everybody else except the bck-up catcher. For the guy screaming about 'roids, you need to put that in the past too. Except that baseball is doing what they can and go on with life.
P.S. We ain't that far out and June has always been tough to the Cubs

Oooops! My sincere apology for "ripping on" KEN T... I had meant my comment for "LAR####". If my memory is correct, Lars is a "regular visitor" (to cubs sites, NOT his own team) and generally, has something "worthless/controversial" to add. SORRY AGAIN Ken T!

I (almost ) hate to do this, but sometimes ya gotta... Kenny T, I see ALOT of posts, you made top 10 with your ignorant, un or under-educated comments about Lee/Aram. Did u feel the need to "talk 'roids cuz its trendy"? Pathetic comment. Thank God u don't work for MLB. People like you likely started The Salem Witch Hunt in some past incarnation! And "Brian M"... Either you were a) forced at gunpoint to a Cubs site, b) your a "closet Cubs Fan" c) your just reeeeeaaallly lonely or d) your pet Chimpanzee got loose and posted that... I would take the Chimp excuse, given a choice! IF IT'S DA CHIMP...you may wanna contact an agent for him or her: Well educated (for a Chimp). On The Cubs, sadly, we are "stuck" with this team or some combination of this team and available call-ups.Our SPs are solid, bats "dead", defense , bull-pen & closer(s) are "suspect" at best. It is Lous job to make it work with what he has (and I assume he had some input in players added.) and field a winning team. Hendrey is (now) only responsible for "additions" from other clubs. Seems at very least, the loss of Sorryano & Bradley would at least lowwer fans blood pressure! Only Cubs could turn a 97 win team into a 80+ win team in one off-season! in any case, Lou best "man-up" and stop his "evasive/whiny" answers to the press, he "made the wine (in part)...let him drink a cup". ONLY brite note, I can't see anyone "sewing up Division", to me, looks like 4 "equally flawed teams" hoping "the other guy(s) get cold at the right time. GO CUBS..............?

The comment on D. Lee and A-Ram being on the juice is from a crack head. There I can talk like an idiot too. Not every muscular person in the world is on 'roids. Next thing you know, Theriot is on juice too. Maybe they will have a little porti-pottie next to home so everybody who hits a homer can leave a urine sample as they cross the plate.
Jake Fox needs to go to the American League. Maybe we could package him up with Miles to get De Rosa.

D Lee had one power season and then broke his wrist, so one can understand where his power went without blaming steroids. As for Ramirez, I don't think a dislocated shoulder is an injury related to being off of steroids and his numbers, when he plays, are the best he has has had in a long while.

duh just another step on the way to 4th place finish even behind Dustys Reds. What a joke. Lets legalize steroids so D Lee and Ramirez can get juiced up again. Being off the juice has affected these two more than most.

Who researched this article? Harden did not show up for the Cubs before the 2008 season. We got him in a trade from Oakland shortly before the deadline in response to the C.C. deal Milwaukee landed. He could have been on the DL for that period, I honestly cannot remember, but even that would surprise since he managed to get 5 wins in that short period and the Cubs were willing to take a chance on him.

May be time for Lou to throw one his patented hissy fits on the field - get tossed - and maybe light a fire under these guys. Bats are WAY too quiet the last 10 days.
