Glaus gets second straight start

ST. LOUIS (AP)—Finally gearing up a bit after nearly a full season of rehab, Troy Glaus(notes) got his second straight start at third base on Friday night for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Manager Tony La Russa believes Glaus can help the Cardinals in the postseason, even though he entered the final weekend batting .208 with two RBIs in 24 at-bats. Glaus had two hits and his first two RBIs in a 13-0 rout of the Reds on Thursday.

“The reality is he’s had an interrupted season,” La Russa said. “I think it’s impressive he’s gotten to where he’s got a chance to help us. I think that’s a big statement right there.”

La Russa said he’d try to give Glaus some work the final weekend, but mostly planned on playing the games straight as the NL Central champions prepared for the playoffs. La Russa said Mark DeRosa(notes) would start at third base on Saturday.

DeRosa, acquired from the Indians in June, took over at third after the Cardinals tired of waiting for Glaus to return from January shoulder surgery. Glaus had a handful of setbacks from that injury, and not long after he was activated at the start of September he was sidelined again after pulling a side muscle on a checked swing.

“Obviously it was very frustrating,” Glaus said. “But the last week or so has been good and I’ll just take this opportunity to go out there and get as many reps as possible.”

Glaus, who hit 27 homers and 99 RBIs last year, believes he’s ready to help the team in October.

“Anytime you go onto the field and you’re in the lineup you’re confident, and hopefully everybody else is confident you can get the job done,” Glaus said. “I’ve been able to do all my work and get as physically prepared to play as I can, and now it’s time to go out there and try to help, and try to produce.”

The 33-year-old Glaus is due for free agency after the season.

“I haven’t even thought that far ahead,” he said. “It sounds very cliche, but it’s very much day to day.”

Mr.La Russa Quotes......“He’s coming in at a difficult time,” La Russa said Tuesday. “We’ve played five months without him. I can’t guarantee him playing time: Just be ready and if you get a call do the best you can.” Now this is about TROY GLAUS......he goes on to say....Quote...“I mean, how do you do that?” La Russa said. “How is it possible to do that? So, who doesn’t play?”
Mr. La Russa is talking about Playing Troy Glaus.....Now,,,,I have a couple words for Mr. La Russa....IF you can play Ankeil and Thurston....you can play Troy.... Tony La Russa said he doesnt want to mess up the second half surge.....WHAT!!!!!! So you put in K. Greene the other night...you put in Thurston the other night.....and keep putting in Ankeil......which went o for 3 or 4 a couple of games ago....K. Greene gets a key HR the other night ,,,but thats not consistent....Thurston..well who knows the reason he puts him in....i say back to triple A. So my concern is this talking about Troy messing up the so called system....is crazy!!!! DeRosa hasnt been the best since we got him....Come on people really...hes been ok at third and ok hitting,,but not no HOLLIDAY...that was the trade pick up of the year...Again...DeRosa goes 1 for 4 every game if lucky....so La Russa whats the problem...A Healthy Troy got you over 90 runs batted in last year and over 20 Hrs. I say let DeRosa ...Troy...K.Greene have a shoot out in september for the postion. but at least play Troy ...again if you play Ankeil and Thurston and K. Greene in September,,,why not Troy...who is still a better fielder hurt than K Greene...LOL FACTS.... Come on ST LOUIS why you sour at TRoy...I think its impressive for Troy to work his way back... If we can let a pitcher keep pitching..wont name ,,names but everyone knows who that is...a hint 5th rotation sent back to triple A and now again coming back...LOL We can let Troy regain his postion back... HELLO!!!

Did this pass by an editor? What a morass of grammatical and factual errors. Journalism is indeed dead.

G you have no idea what you're talking about! Full of "rookies'?? Last time I checked Colby Rasmus is the lone rookie on the team. John M and Bill Dewitt did work by bringing in Holliday, DeRosa, Lugo, and Smoltz. Everyone has contributed to the Cards success! My hats off to the St.Louis Cardinal management for bringing in those guys! Lets take down the Yankees! Go Cards!

Seriously, who is G? And could he please pull his head out of his you know what? Where are all of the rookies? Last time I checked there was one that is regularly inserted into the starting lineup. And Rasmus is always mentioned in the periphery as a Rookie of the Year. What more could you possibly ask for as a Cardinals fan? They're 10.5 games up. Every move by Mozeliak has been solid. They're going to coast into the postseason. The only thing standing between them and the Yankees are the Phillies, and that will be a dogfight. Get a life and go root for the cubs.

Stop ripping management! They got Holiday and are showing Albert they want to win which is huge long term. And they were patient and got him without giving up Luddy. Give the guy a break, Cards will win the division and contend. Chill out and cheer them on damn it quit complaining, they are not the Blue Jays at least. Let's win it again like in 2006!!!!!!

"G"- as a cub fan, i carry untold experience in "panic"...no need for Stl to panic. pitching & pen ok, some biiig bats, Puhols, Ludwick, Holliday, Ankiel & DeRo...not to worry! i will say "somethings up" w/Cards lately...like "not hungry" or no "killer instinct"...maybe just an odd stretch coupled w/ a "cold" Puhols... Cubs up 6, Cards down 3-4, unless this continues 7-10 days, we can all continue to sweat it out! :)

Oh yeah! Instead of another 4th place finish we might end up in 2nd or 3rd - that's progress Mo and Dewallet! Still not good enough, this team is full of rookies that don't appear to be too strong. Thankfully any time AP5 is in the lineup we have a chance. Pull the trigger on something soon Mozeliak!!!
