Brewers, Hoffman announce 1-year deal
MILWAUKEE (AP)—The Brewers have announced an $8 million, one-year contract with career saves leader Trevor Hoffman(notes) with a mutual option for 2011.
General manager Doug Melvin says Hoffman is concerned about winning, not about individual numbers, and that the club is thrilled to have him back.
Hoffman signed with the Brewers before the beginning of the year after spending 16 seasons in San Diego. He converted 37 of 41 save chances to give him 591 for his career, and finished the season with a 1.83 ERA, his lowest since 1998.
The veteran right-hander will turn 42 next week.
The option year could be worth up to $8.5 million, depending on how many games Hoffman finishes. It has a $500,000 buyout that would increase to $1 million if he closes 40 games.

Went to 3 games this year - most expensive was $40 for club tickets - otherwise always less than 30. Whatever you want to drink is expensive, but under $7 - and if you bring it in plastic bottles in a soft sided cooler, you can take your own soft drinks into the game. If I recall correctly, nothing on the food menu is over $9 - and again, put it in a soft sided cooler (which will keep warm food warm, too) and bring your own if you like.
Yes, the game is expensive. But only as expensive as you make it.
And until you know what you are talking about, you are the idiot for spouting off.

Prince has another year under contract and one more year of arbitration. This deal will not affect the signing or trading of fielder.

Your post, #51 - yes, you are right. BUT, the earlier posts you are refering to that say Hoffman is going are from August, when Hoffman, like most veterans on non-playoff contending teams, was put on waivers and someone had claimed him. However, the Brewers wisely exercised their right to retain him instead.

He also had 4 saves by getting 3 outs with a 4 run lead. Those are NOT saves even by the twisted current criteria. Rivera didn't pitch more than 70 innings & had about 72-73 strikeouts. BFD!
Many relief pitchers had year after year where they pitched 120+ innings & struck out 120- 150.
I am 60 years old & could do what Rivera does! Old school closers only got saves if the tying run got into scoring position. And relief pictures most often entered games in the 7th or 8th inning with runners already on in scoring position. Those were real saves.
And yet, some dingbats in the media vote for closers that pitch 65-80 innings for the Cy & for MVP. WTF?
