Astros ace Oswalt to visit Dallas doctor

HOUSTON (AP)—Houston Astros ace Roy Oswalt(notes) will visit orthopedic surgeon Dr. Andrew Dossett in Dallas on Thursday to get a second opinion on his sore back.

Oswalt (8-6, 4.12 ERA) reported discomfort in his arm after pitching five-plus innings in a no-decision against Cincinnati on Sept. 15. He’s been bothered by hip and back pain for much of the season and the team said after the start that Oswalt wouldn’t pitch again this season.

Also Tuesday, Wade said relief pitcher Alberto Arias(notes) will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Wednesday. Arias (2-1, 3.35 ERA) has been on the disabled list since Aug. 24.

    Hey Will B (post #10) - Jair Jurrjens excelled in the WBC and he's one of the best pitchers in the NL this year so there goes your WBC argument!

    The Astros need to trade Oswalt,Berkman and Tejada,also get rid of Carlos Lee as well if they can and Valverde for young minor league prospects,Get rid of the dead weight washed up bums like Erstad,Blum and Mike Hampton,Bulid around Bourn,Wandy Rodriguez and Hunter Pence with young prospects,The Astros need to be younger.

    What do u execept from a cheap team that is old and has no farm system in baseball you have to have a top tier revenue in order to compete and small market teams can win maybe one championship then fade to obsurity when all the good players or young prospects go to teams with more money. In baseball to be consisent you HAVE TO SPEND MONEY$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But its all about football now go texans maybe astros will be good next year.

    Has anyone noticed that the main starting pitchers, for the USA in the World Baseball Classic, were Roy Oswalt and Jake Peevy?

    Both have had off years and health problems!!!!

    Another argument to stop the experiment of WBC!!!

    the Astros don't suck. I am an Astros fan, and I watch them all the time and I know the sport of baseball very well. The Astros are an average team. That's it. Some nights they will look like they could win the World Series and some nights it looks like a 14 year old boys Pony league select team playing vs. the big boys. Unfortunately that is what you get with an average team.

    9 Games back June 29th, 3 games back as we set, they have the top base stealer in Bourne, they have two guys in the top 6 in the leauge in hitting, including Tejada at #1 or #2 depending on what day you look, Wandy Rodriguez has a 2.69 ERA, and you idiots say they suck, you jackoffs don't have a clue. The Mets now thats a team that sucks,,,and the record proves it! And for the Red Sox chump, The Yankees are back, and the Red Sox themselves don't suck, but you fans do, Why else does anyone who plays for the Bo@#$%s want leave?

    It's years of trading young guys for old guys mentality, b ut I would make those trades for The big unit and Beltran over and over again! Now we are rebuilding by actually signing our draft picks, and by the time they start arriving we still will put a competive team in the feld year in year out

    #3.. Who's landed on the DL? Lance Berkman and Jose Valverde? You're worse than the Mets and they don't have Delgado, Beltran, Reyes and Johan is bad.

    Who do you suggest they give up to get another ace? Their farm is terrible and pretty prospectless.

    Astros do suck.

    astros don't suck they just bad luck, everyone is landing on the dl list this year. not a good year for them, but still they need to get rid of hampton and get another ace to help wandy and roy...
