Yahoo! Contributor NetworkJoe Buck and Tim McCarver are ruining the playoffs
Joe Buck and Tim McCarver are ruining the playoffs! Now that statement could be applied to any year but it is especially appropriate for the 2010 MLB postseason. Why won't FOX listen to the fans? People are disgusted with this dynamic duo. They ramble about nothing, submit useless information, and make unintelligible comments.
Joe Buck displays the energy and emotional investment in the game as if he's announcing a 2010 Bobby Fischer chess match. His mindless blabber and monotonous tone is enough to make you wish for the days of silent movies. Why are fans forced to watch the World Series in silence? When you do wake up from your Buck induced coma all you end up hearing is the Peanuts' teacher "Wah, wah, wah, wah, wah."
Tim McCarver's sole purpose is to offer insightful commentary. Therefore we get statements like "A catcher's feet take much abuse during a season…much like a ballerina." Or "Sanchez chose number 21 because he went to a high school with many notable Hollywood stars." Or "Many don't understand that a good catcher will force a pitcher to shake him off." If all the color commentator needs to do to earn a paycheck is read some ridiculous queue card copied from Wikepedia, then we all have a six year old nephew who could fill the role quite well. At least then we could respond "How cute" instead of "Honey, where's my bat? I need to smash the TV."
Now you take either Joe Buck or Tim McCarver by themselves and it's enough to send you straight to Eastern State Hospital. But having FOX choose to make this masterful combo makes you question the mental stability of the station's executives. Who chooses to put such utter nonsense on the air series after series and year after year?
Yet fans really need to blame themselves for the Buck and McCarver perpetuation. As George Bush once said "Fool me once…Shame on…Shame on you…Fool me…Can't get fooled again." Radio here we come! Local radio, national radio, satellite radio, whatever we can find. Maybe if enough people start shunning the television coverage, FOX will get the hint that fans are exhausted with finding the elusive mute button on the remote. It is simply easier on the ears and the thumbs to turn the TV off, listen to some intelligence on the radio, and catch the highlights on local networks later.
Surely Joe Buck and Tim McCarver are nice human beings. They are just simply in the wrong business. Perhaps they can look into used car sales, acousticophobia therapists, or possibly internet article writing. Just please stay away from Major League Baseball commentating. Are you listening FOX? Joe Buck and Tim McCarver are ruining the playoffs!
