Big League Stew - MLB

Even when Bo Jackson struck out (which was often), the 6-foot-1 Rock of Gibraltar entertained the masses by channeling his disappointment into a show of strength — by snapping his bat over his knee like it was a toothpick.

He might not have been the first to do it, but Bo turned bat breaking into art. Every once in a while, a contemporary major leaguer will break his bat, or will try, in like fashion.

As we will see in the photographic evidence obtained from the Yankees' 7-2 playoff victory over the Twins on Wednesday night, Minnesota's Orlando Cabrera(notes) don't know diddley about breaking a bat over his knee.

With the Twins trying to rally in the seventh inning, Cabrera (right) and manager Ron Gardenhire wonder how much force it takes to snap a man a bat in two. ...

Phil Hughes(notes) has the O.C. right where he wants him. ...

Swing and a miss! ...

My name is Orlando Cabrera. You missed the ball. Prepare to die. ...

By the power of Greyskull! ...

Ow. ...

Left-leaning celebrities applaud the saving of another tree. ...

The bat is safe for another plate appearance.

geniusman. First, I cannot take credit for this fine piece of work. It belongs to my colleague, Dave Brown. Second, this is a blog. We're trying to have some fun around here. Let your hair down. Loosen your collar. There's plenty of other regular post on this blog, too. Go check 'em out.

It's actually quite amusing because the bat is probably stronger than O-Cab's legs.
And I cannot for the life of me understand others coming on here just to slag the blog. It is what it is, if you don't like it, don't read it. It's simple really.

He probably could have easily broken it over that Sam Cassell looking face of his. I don't remember him looking as much like Schmeagles when he was with Boston. Age hasn't done him well- neither has that goofy follow through swing.

He should of used his hard head instead of his leg. The bat would not have had a chance.

Cabrera says that WonderBoy was carved from a tree hit by lighning and cannot by broken, so it's an unfair assessment of his manhood.

Classic photo of Sabathia mining for gold. I keep hearing Charlie Sheen say incredulously, "You put SNOT on the ball?"

I like your photo of CC. You need to dig deep to win in the postseason, and he certainly did that last night.

@ 'Duk: First off, you're right, I apologize for mis-identifying you and I hope Dave Brown accept my apologies for the mix-up.
Second, while I understand the whole "having fun" part of the blog, it seems to me if you're going to get PAID to write articles, they should be about things that matter, rather than compiling 7 photos about some random event that no one else even thought twice about.
    PS- @ miguel: I'm actually a die-hard Yankees fan :P

Well, they get paid to write things that draw in readers. Seems like this drew you in. Therefore, he's done his job perfectly.

genius_man, maybe you should stop complaining. Nobody forced you to read this. There are plenty of sports articles on the web.
You seem to think your more important than everyone else and need to express your displeasure b/c your time was wasted.
My suggestion to you is to use an rss reader and subscribe to what you want to read. That way you don't waste your own time.

Mn Fan here - I watched the game if you look at the video it was more of an action in jest. I dont know if he could break the bat over his leg or not, but he wasn't trying. Great observation though, really hard hitting crap. why dont you get a highlight real of baseball players shifting their cup, or maybe spitting seeds on their lap. Welcome to the Jackass era.

The twins aren't going anywhere. Bring on the Redsox. The Yankees have a score to settle.
