Big League Stew - MLB

Micah, one of my college friends and a Los Angeles native, knows every single word of Vin Scully's Kirk Gibson homer, from the time he stepped out of the dugout ("And look who's coming to bat!") to the instant the ball cleared the right field wall (" ... the impossible has happened!")

He also loves baseball cards, so I'm pretty sure his head is going to explode when he sees this. The clip is almost 10 minutes long, but completely worth it for a mid-day pick-me-up.

(A big BLS head nod goes to 6-4-2 for knocking me in on the sac fly.)

I like Vin Scully, but c'mon, Jack Buck's call that night was 10 times better

vin scully is great,i again got chills, even being a diehard Yankees fan since 1977 (reggie hits 3!!!) I don't know about 10 times better, but when the gibson homer is EVER mentioned i immediately hear "this is gonna be a home run!! Un believeable!! I don't believe what i just saw!" I actually caught the 9th inning of game 1 while at work stationed in Korea, great series opener, an interesting tidbit, Mcgwire and Conseco combined to go 1 for 44 or 45 in the series the one hit obviously the grand slam that Gibby erased

AARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH!!! The one backdoor slider Eck throws with two strikes to a lefty batter all freaking season and I'll be having nightmares about it for the rest of my life.
Truly, the single worst moment of the 20th Century, bar none. Curse Kirk Gibson for all eternity.
Eh, at least we swept the G'aints in '89-

I'm one of the 50,000 or so people who were in the park that night and saw that unbelievable home run. Just seeing those highlights again and hearing Vin Scully's call gives me goosebumps. Lost in the whole discussion is this tidbit: How in the heck did Eck walk the .180 hitting Mike Davis right before facing Gibson?

Good thing Gibson did something....who needs to leave the game in the hands of Steve Sax?

Gibby is a Tiger at heart, but he is in the heart of all Dodger fans! By the way, Steve Saxs' hitting was much better than his throwing to first.
