Poor little Brooklynn Bird.
Since coming into this world on Aug. 1, her San Francisco Giants are 7-14 and have spent more days out of first place in the NL West than they've sat atop it. She's never seen Buster Posey(notes) swing a bat, been hopeful about the prospects of the Carlos Beltran(notes) trade or been able to watch Brian Wilson(notes) convert more than one measly save.
In short, Brooklynn has quickly learned what every Bay Area fan from 1958-2009 knew all too well: It's hard out here for a supporter of the orange and black.
On the other hand, at least Brooklynn can still revel in the "World Championship Baby" title that she just hauled down. As we noted on the Stew earlier, Comcast Bay Area was holding a contest for the baby born closest to nine months after the exact moment the Giants clinched the World Series. Brooklynn was born to Jennifer and Robert Bird at 8:02 p.m. on Aug. 1, just eight minutes after the Giants' title officially went full term. The couple describes themselves as "lifelong" Giants fans, though the fact they still went ahead and got married during the team's clinching Game 6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS makes you wonder about their priorities. (Oh, we kid, we kid.)
Thanks to some good timing, the Birds beat out 928 other entries who had their eyes on the prize. The family will receive a birth certificate signed by the Giants, a commemorative brick at AT&T Park and a gift certificate worth $2,010.
Congratulations Bird family!
