Big League Stew - MLB

Well, we might as well shut down the Internet for the day, because I'm pretty sure we're not going to see any baseball posts better than this one in the next 24 hours.

According to The Dirty, those fine purveyors of Matt Leinart photos, Giants pitcher Barry Zito(notes) recently recorded a song entitled "A Man's Gotta Do" and, well, you pretty much have to listen to it for yourselves. It's hard to tell if Zito is being serious or not, but extra points for making it until the end.

UPDATE:  Zito mentioned this song in a 2006 interview with our own Dave Brown.

UPDATE #2: Just heard from Zito's people who say the the recording was "never authorized to be released and never intended to be released."

A big BLS head nod to Minda's Twitter for the redirect.

This has got to be a joke... Or (from the other song) Zito likes to make things a family affair...
    "Don't look at me
Like I just slept with your mother
Don't judge me because I could be your brother
and I bet your dad would love me
I guess we'll have to wait and see if you and I will be something"

On Saturday, Barry Zito will get the start vs Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo. Coincidence of the rotation? Or a highly researched strategy to absorb by osmosis some of Bronson's already-established musical success and CD production and sales?

I'd just like to thank Zito for allowing me to make reference to my favorite Boogie Nights scene on two different occasions.

With $126 Million Dollars, you would think he'd hire an instructor to teach him how to sing!

I got to 1:12. I wanted it to be good so I could say "he belts out a song like opposing batters belt his pitches" but he let me down.

Cant bust a man on his music passion or taste, everyone has a different one. This isn't THAT bad, although I would never listen to it outside of this. Needs to work on his lyrics, and he also needs some more musical direction. But really, he should focus on baseball seeing as his Giants are still in it.
I listened to the whole thing and now I'm turning my Smashing Pumpkins back on.

    Feel the heat.
Man, Zito said three years ago he was working on this song. Still needs work. But I don't think he should give up his dream.
As a professional music listener, let me say this: Find the Righetti of voice coaches and maybe -- maybe -- Zito can play the Armada Room at the Holiday Inn.

When you're an overpaid pitcher in a team of loser players and loser fans (who now diss Manny after supporting bonds for so many years - pathetic), why not try to do something different than baseball?

If only all men had half as much talent and looks as Barry Zito, I could set my sights on someone who's actually attainable. Are you hot enough to be a model, can you sing even a little, can you play the guitar and can you win the Cy Young? No, but I know what you can do...be a really good hater. See, you've got a talent!

I don't know 'Duk, it's not great but it's probably a lot better than what you'd come up with. Also he plays professional baseball, you write a blog. You might think he sucks but I have a feeling he probably wouldn't switch places with you
