Big League Stew - MLB

There probably haven't been many pictures this season I've enjoyed more than this one in the Washington Post of Dmitri Young huffing and puffing his way to a double.

But there definitely hasn't been a better photo description I've read than the accompanying piece from Agent Steinberg:

"The tuft of soul patch quivering like a North Carolina palm tree in hurricane season, both feet hovering lightly off the ground like hummingbirds at dusk, the helmet a once-vivid dream bouncing backwards toward oblivion, the shirt for now winning its endless battle against the laws of physics  ...

I actually just like the determination that's on Da Meat Hook's face and the deliberate and apparent method in which he's trying to achieve his goal. Bravo Dmitri! Bravo Steinz! Bravo to all of us who enjoy your work!

Elsewhere in the baseball blogosphere ...

• In case you were wondering what a trip to one of those all-you-can-eat sections is like, here's an excellent photo essay of such an adventure in Pittsburgh. The picture of one man's t-shirt about what happened to him in 'the Burgh is worth the click alone. [Mondesi's House]

• After reading this, I'd sure like to interview Bob Feller. As an aside, is "Rapid Robert" the most underrated nicknamed in baseball history? I believe it is. [NYT Bats Blog]

• Your last-place Blue Jays had an interesting week. [Tao of Stieb]

• A good picture of the rainbow that appeared over Wrigleyville (Boystown, too) last night. [Bleed Cubbie Blue]

• Joe Posnanski ranks his top five KC barbecue places and fails to mention Smokin' Guns. Note to self: Bring Joe to Smokin' Guns next time I'm in KC and make him realize the error of his ways. [JoeBlog]

• The new Gatorade "ball girl" commercial is pretty sweet, although not very believable. [Detroit Tiger Weblog]

• Mascot races that don't exist, but should. [Bugs & Cranks]

• Some believe the Tigers have gone into attack position, with the Twins and White Sox in their sights. [Roar of the Tigers]

Just thought I might point this out to "Da Meat hooks" agent. We don't really have palm trees here in North Carolina.

Surely this pic isn't as good as watching Fielder's inside-the-park home run. That was funny.

I was on field at Comerica Park and took a picture of Dmitri when he was with the Tigers a few years ago. He wasn't nearly as big. Does this mean he's on performance enhancing drugs like Barry Bonds?
