Big League Stew - MLB

Taking a page from NHLers who sip nectar from Lord Stanley's Cup (they did clinch the AL East in Hockeytown, after all) some Tampa Bay Rays used what was on hand (or on something else) to enjoy themselves during the postgame celebration at Comerica Park on Friday.

Here, outfielder Jonny Gomes drinks a beer shooter out of a cup — no, not the souvenir kind — which might belong to teammate Dioner Navarro and which might not have been sanitized previous to use. Gomes and pals later applied some friendly peer pressure to skipper Joe Maddon, who at first resisted then drank up using the support device. Talk about a team being tight with each other.

Click after the jump for another shot of Gomes jocking the newest way to celebrate.

The alcohol involved sanitized any leftover germs. They may never pass this way again - so drink from any cup you can...

I don't see this team doing anything in the future... with 3 starters having ERA's over 4.00.... solid play and a lot of luck, and a great start... also no injuries... they play hard... but Rays wont make the playoffs next year!... every now and then you need a team like this.. you know that comes OUT OF NOWHERE... I see them losing in ALCS.. but congrats to the RAYS no doubt... World Series... Angels vs. Cubs... Cubs in 7 !

NO INJURES? What team were you watching this year? Evan Longoria, Carl Crawford, Troy Percival, Carlos Pena, and a handful of others ALL missed extended time this year due to injury, and through it all the Rays played as a TEAM and persevered and won. On top of that, they had underachieving years across the board, most notably from Pena, Crawford, and B.J. Upton. Not only will they be around for the immediate future, they'll be even BETTER next year.

If Gomes had put as much effort into his hitting as his drinking, he wouldn't have been in AAA for a month or so. Still, GO RAYS!

Yeah, disgusting...but you may never pass this way again...In the words of the great Digital Underground... "Dowhutchalike!"
