The original Rally Squirrel may have been fried and eaten moved to a wildlife center in the days since the St. Louis Cardinals clinched the NLDS in Philadelphia and began the NLCS up in Milwaukee.

But as the Cards return to Busch Stadium for Wednesday night's Game 3, you can be certain that the surest sign that St. Louisians are insane cute cult hero will be everywhere in spirit. From causing Tony La Russa to babble excitedly to inspiring his own MLB commercial set to "Written In The Stars" (please make it stop), the Rally Squirrel has completely taken over the Cardinals' postseason. The team plans to hand out 40,000 "Rally Squirrel" towels to fans at Wednesday night's game and squirrel merch might be more prevalent in the stands than Albert Pujols(notes) jerseys and rain gear. Hey, no one said being a sports fan was an exercise in sanity.
Here's a few other examples of the phenomenon in action:

Squirrel T-shirts have become a cottage industry. This one is the best I've seen so far.

This one from Squirrel Stuff is fun, too.

Here are some cupcake squirrels thoughtfully baked by @mollymrad and featured on KSDK (h/n @athooks). I'll take five.

OK, so this is either the Cardinals taking things a little too far ... or another awesome fake Photoshop job from our pals at Joe Sports Fan. (Thankfully, it's the latter.)
