Big League Stew - MLB

Florida Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison(notes) just broke the sad news via his Twitter feed:

Shortly after 9pm last night my hero, Thomas Morrison passed away. To the world he may have been just a somebody, but to this somebody he was my world

That is, of course, just completely deflating news to those of us who have grown fond of Logan through his popular @LoMoMarlins account. One of the most heartwarming stories we ran during the 2010 season was Tom Morrison being on hand at Citi Field for his son's first career triple. Tom, a 51-year-old non-smoker, was battling inoperable lung cancer and he was maximizing the time he had left by following Logan's rookie season as closely as he could. Logan, 23, did his daddy proud after his midseason callup, hitting .283/.390/.447 over 62 games with the Marlins.

Tom spoke of wanting to buy a universal train ticket for the 2011 season so he could travel to all of Logan's games. That sadly won't happen now, but it's certain he'll be at every game — both home and away — in spirit. Our condolences go out to Logan and his family.
