Big League Stew - MLB

Jimmy Rollins(notes) appeared during the "10@10" segment on The Jay Leno Show on Monday night and he didn't beat around the bush when asked for his World Series prediction.

"Of course we're gonna win. If we're nice, we'll let it go six, but I'm thinking five, close it out at home."

Considering he didn't have to issue a victory length, that's a pretty bold statement from the Phillies shortstop. Gotta love the confidence he shows as a defending champ.

I haven't seen anything made about the prediction in the New York media, though I assume that's only because no one watches Leno on first run. Give it a day and I'm sure this will become one of the storylines leading into Wednesday's Game 1.

A big BLS head nod to The 700 Level for the redirect.

I love it. It reminds me of the Giants getting off the plane dressed in black before the Super Bowl because they were dressed for The Patriots' funeral. Everyone else might think the Yankees are the better team but the Phillies know who they are and ain't afraid of anything.

    Attention Mr. Rollins,
Let me vehemently remind you that THIS IS NOT DAVID WRIGHT AND THE CHOKIN' NEW YORK METS YOU'RE PLAYIN' HERE!!!!!!! If it were, then yeah, you'd be head on with your talk BUT IT'S NOT!!!!! THESE ARE THE NEW YORK YANKEES, 26 TIME WORLD CHAMPIONS! WE WILL PROCURE #27 AT THE EXPENSE OF YOUR APTHETIC TRASH TALKIN' YO YO TEAM!!
Face it Holmes, apart from Cliff Lee, your team ain't got a Pitching Staff, period! So my kind words of recommendation to you are TO THINK WITH YOUR HEAD, NOT YOUR A.S.S!!! Cliff Lee, prior to the trade to Philly, was roughed up by the NYY, that too in Cleveland. God forbid what would happen here in October.
LOL, you call beating the Los Angeles Dodgers (with Krusty the Clown as their Centerpiece) a feat to get here? Try facing the Los Angeles Hay-Blows of Anaheim. That is a soundly fundamental team that was thrown out of its rhythm due to them wanting to do too much to beat the NYY. And for that matter, so did the Twinkies. Both failed! And on your pathetic Phillies team, I look at the Game 2 late innings that Utley had. You guys had better becareful that this doesn't happen here or else it'll be more of the same.
Oh Yeah, our LCS MVP, CC SABATHIA!!!! DOMINANT IN THIS POSTSEASON!!! SO WHAT IF HE COULDN'T HANDLE PHILLY LAST YEAR OR THE RED SOX THE YEAR PRIOR? LIKE THE CASE WITH THE STOCK MARKET IS, PAST EXPERIENCE IS NOT A DIRECT REFLECTION ON WHAT IS TO BE EXPECTED IN FUTURE RESULTS. CC IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT ANIMAL THIS YEAR!!
A-ROD! AS OFF AS HE'S BEEN IN THE PAST YEARS' PLAYOFFS, HE IS THAT MUCH BETTER THIS YEAR. FORTHAT MATTER, YOU GUYS HAD BETTER WATCH THE VIDEO 2009 ALDS GAME 2 BETWEEN MIN AND NYY. 2 RUN LEAD FOR MINN WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE SECURED AND PERHAPS HAVE TIED THAT SERIES AT 1. NOT QUITE!!!! an A-BOMB!!!!!!! FROM A-RODDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!! PHILLY FANS RIGHT ABOUT NOW ARE DEFECATING IN THEIR PANTS ABOUT THE PROSPECTS OF AN A-ROD VS. LIDGE LATE INNINGS MATCHUP. ADVANTAGE: A-ROD, ONCE MON-SAT AND TWICE OVER ON SUNDAY.
OH! AND WHAT ABOUT POTENTIAL GAME 2 STARTER, PEDRO (WHO'S YOUR DADDY) MARTINEZ? HE'LL BE DONE BY THE 3RD INNING IN GAME 2 SOMETIME WITH THE NYY BEYOTCH SLAPPING HIM ALL OVER THE BRONX. NEW STADIUM OR OLD? IT DOESN'T MATTER, WE OWN HIM!!
I guess that just as the Clam Chowder was constipating the minds of Red Sox Nation faithful during the year (remember, the team that won the first 8 meetings vs. NYY?), it only goes to show that too much Cheesesteak is just as bad for you too.
NYY in 5, 6 AT THE VERY WORST (IF WE'RE NICE!)

Hey Jimmy I bet you couldn't have predicted what a terrible season you'd have at the plate!!! You ain't no Jeter, pal. And you never will be.
You ain't talking to the Mets, buddy. They play a full nine in the bronx. I hope you're hungry, it's going to be a lot of words to eat.

Not the Choking Mets? We know, it is the Choking Yanks. How much money did it take to miss the post season last year? You guys also made some fine history in 2004.
Jimmy wasnt even smiling when he said it, haha. He was being honest, and that is fine, because he is right.

SUnil, that's a weak argument. Any of our pitchers can knock down any of your batters too. Sabathia doesn't have some sort of magic arm. I guess Madson could knock down your entire lineup and then you'll have to forefeit. You sound ridiculous. Why don't you concentrate on reality, holmes?

Because unlike you Jaybatt79, our heads are not stuffed with Cheese Steaks 24/7/365. Yeah we choked, so what? In 93, your lousy Phillies team blew a 9th inning lead courtesy of a Joe Carter 3 run walk off homerun. Mind you that this is a series where the Homerun will be heaviliy favored just like back then. With players like Brad Lidge and Alex Rodriguez, it's entirely possible for that history to repeat.
Moral of the Story: Don't be so fast to count out the Pinstriped Pride. We're better than the Jays, whom you've lost to and remember we're not as lowly as Tampa Bay. They practically didn't show up at the World Series last year.

If the yankees can win a 100 world series, that will not pay your bills are make you a better person.
As a Philly fan I hope you do win, you need it more.

What's weak is Rollins prediction. Only a jackass throws gas on a fire they already can't control. His team plays in the AAA division so please don't think the Yankees are remotely afraid of facing the Phillies. Yeah, you won last year, congrats but winning one year against a bunch of guys that were barely out of college and had never been there before is gonna be a lot different than facing the core of this Yankee squad. The Phillies pitching sucks azz! Cliff Lee might get lucky and semi contain the Yankee lineup but we'll take pitches, wear him out, and destroy your pen, it's what we do. Pedro, this must be some sort of bad bad joke to think Pedro is going to intimidate us right? We use to stomp his coconut pickin azz when Pedro was actually Pedro, do you really think Pedro "the Yankees are my Daddy" Martinez worries us, seriously?
Rollins is a nice player but for the jackass that said he's better than Jeter maybe you may want to look at what they each just did in their respective playoff series and it's pretty clear who the better performing SS is. Right now the only place you clearly have an advantage is at 1B, and if Tex gets going, and the signs are there the past two games he's going to, even that becomes dead even.
Yanks in 6....and who knows, maybe a sweep with a little luck!

Oh Sunil, so your argument is that the 2009 Yankees are better than the 1993 Blue Jays (not true) so that means they can beat the 2009 Phillies because the 93 Jays beat the 93 Phillies? I think you should go back to Sabathia winning the series by plunking our hitters until they're no longer effective. Astonishingly that made more sense.

Oh yeah, as far as that May 3 game series goes, I do believe that was prior to A-Rod's return and when we were severely struggling, not when we were playing good ball. Of course it counts but if you expect that Yankee team to take the field tomorrow night, you have another thing coming. Also you haven't factored in the NY crowd, which your team has never had to contend with. Please don't even say that you've played at Shea or this new dump the Muts call home. Those are Mut fans, they lay down and die every year, just like their team. Now you're boys are gonna have to deal with real baseball fans, fans that actually care about their team, know the game, and know how to effect an outcome. Philly fans have a rep but compared to Boston fans you guys got [profane]! I hope you Philly fans have the balls to return here after this is over and congratulate us on our win or will you be equal to the dickwads up in Beantown and go into hiding or make excuses? Hopefully you'll have some honor and come back to admit how wrong you were and that your team sucks, but, I doubt it!

Cliff, let me ask you 2 questions. Werth or Swishern who's better? Victorino or Cabrera? Utley or Cano? You can also make a strong argument for Ibanez over the candy armed left fielder you got. It sound to me like you saying we got one position over you is BS. OK, one more question. What do Swisher, Cabrera, Cano, Damon, Matsui and Texiera all have in common? They'd be bench players for the defending champs.
