UPDATE: It's official. Dustin Pedroia and K-Rod, dust off those MVP resumes, will ya? You're one Justin Morneau down-the-stretch slump from duking it out.
UPDATE #2: The White Sox are saying Quentin will have surgery and then be re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks. He broke it after hitting his own bat.
I'm not sure where this ranks on the irony scale, but one of the only players holding the White Sox back from becoming a full-fledged creaky AARP-card carrying member may now be done for the year.
According to both WSCR and the Sun-Times, quiet MVP candidate Carlos Quentin has a fractured right wrist and will need season-ending surgery.
Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus has more:
WSCR in Chicago is reporting that Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist and is done for the season. I have been unable to confirm the specifics, but there is more going on than I was led to believe yesterday. Just last evening, I spoke with a trusted source who told me that he expected Quentin to be back in the lineup today, as you'll see in Friday's UTK Wrap. Now, that is no longer the case. Quentin returned from scans on his injured arm with a cast or brace and an announcement is expected before game time with more details.
The White Sox currently hold a 1.5-game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central, but if a news release is capable of actually erasing an advantage in the standings, I think this would qualify. Perhaps those thoughts of a Crosstown World Series were just too good to be true.

Praying that Josh Hamilton and Ryan Ludwick break out of their slumps, Ben Sheets is healthy, and someone decides to steal a freaking base!
