When it comes to contracts worth tens of millions, I usually don't understand why athletes and agents start quibbling about a million here or a million there. However, in the case of Nick Markakis' new deal with the Orioles — reported to be six years for $66 million — would it have killed the outfielder to ask for an less Lucifer-like amount?
After all, if San Francisco cabbies can fight against the 6-6-6 curse, I'm assuming Markakis could have used his 20 homer, 87 RBI and .306/.406/.491 marks in '08 to do the same.
