Spine-tingling stuff in Cincinnati, where the team unveiled a secret it was able to keep until player introductions: As each member of the Reds had his name announced before the game, he ran onto the field wearing a Joe Nuxhall #41 jersey. You might remember that the former Reds pitcher and announcer died last November. The team plans to auction off the jerseys to raise money for his charity.
That's about as big of a tribute as I can think for such a giant in Cincinnati franchise history and even cooler is that Opening Day starter Aaron Harang kept wearing Nuxhall's jersey after the introductions. He's currently pitching while donning it.
(Though he might want to pick up the effort a bit. Harang has five strikeouts through four innings, but the Reds are currently down 3-0, thanks to a pair of home runs that Harang served up to Chris Young and Eric Byrnes. With Brandon Webb going for Arizona, that might be all the D'backs need to play the role of Queen City spoiler.)
UPDATE: As soon as I write that, the Reds score two in the bottom of the fourth to get within one.
