Big League Stew - MLB

The Red Sox traded Nomar Garciaparra(notes) to the Cubs five years ago and, hard as it is to believe, he had not returned to Fenway Park as an opposing player until Monday night.

New Englanders showed their love for Garciaparra, now with the Athletics, who at one time was the face of the franchise. Nomar, in turn, seemed to feel them right back.

Some might have taken advantage of his good nature, however. One of the little kids even made Nomar finish his "welcome" sign for him.

Do your own work, kids. Have the little ragamuffins not learned one lesson from Nomar's life?

Garciaparra had a satisfying day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI in the A's victory.

Yahoo! Sports' own Gordon Edes says the return is bittersweet overall. He is on the scene and files this report from Fenway. Gordon?
