Pat Burrell has played all nine of his Major League seasons in Philadelphia. Some have been up, some have been down, but never has one involved a trip to the NLCS
Well, until now. Thanks in large part to Pat's bat, the Phillies are going back to the NLCS for the first time since Lenny Dykstra, John Kruk and Co. took the city by storm in 1993. Spray the 'Wiz, ring the Liberty Bell, whatever,
Despite going 0-for-the-first-three-games of the NLDS, Burrell went 3-for-4 with two HRs and four RBI in Sunday afternoon's 6-2 victory over the Brewers in Milwaukee.
"As long as I've been here with the organization and to see where we've come, to get to this point and have to have gone through," Burrell long-windedly said after the game. "It makes it all worthwhile."
The win gave the Phillies a three games to one victory in the NLDS and prevented the series from returning to Philadelphia for a Game 5 on Tuesday night.
Instead, the Phillies will open the NLCS against Los Angeles with Game 1 against Los Angeles on Thursday and will have ace left-hander Cole Hamels on the mound with seven days rest.
If you're of a certain age and experiencing some deja vu after seeing this NLCS matchup, you're not losing your mind. The Phillies and Dodgers have met three previous times with the World Series on the line with Philadelphia prevailing in '83 while the Dodgers advanced in '77 and '78.
Though disappointed with the loss (and no doubt, the defeat of the Packers as well), the Miller Park crowd immediately showered the Brewers with applause in appreciation for the team's first playoff appearance since the 1982 American League champion squad.

To #3, if you remember, CC Sabathia was the best pitcher in the NL after arriving in Milwaukee, and he was manhandled in Game 2. If the rest of Philly's offense wakes up, there will be no stopping them.
