Big League Stew - MLB

Yeah, there are a few appearances by non All-Stars (Ortiz and Reyes) and at least one Yahooligan thinks several people may have died during its filming, but the latest All-Star commercial featuring the Gatway Arch as a talent magnet gets a solid 'A' from our little corner of the baseball world. Anyone know how I can arrange for similar transportation to St. Louis?

Major League Baseball gets a lot of well-deserved guff for coming up short on its marketing efforts, but I've enjoyed its All-Star commercials for the past couple of seasons. Who even knew that Bud Selig was a fan of Carolina Liar or Silversun Pickups?

Watch the 2008 All-Star spot here and the 2007 edition here.

Pretty cool commercial...except when the arch drop off people in Busch Stadium. Some of the folks fell from a height that seemed to equate to the distance from the field to the upper deck. Ouch!

I'm still confused why one second Derek Jeter is leading off of first, he gets picked up by the giant magnet, then suddenly his pitcher is back on the field receiving the throw.
Did that count as the third out because he went out of the baseline, or what?

Is it just me, or do most of the non-baseball players in the ad look like Chad & Trixie?

It's funny that all the Cubs run for the magnet, and none make it. Pretty accurate.

Yeah, they only sent 8 players last season. Lotta good that did them in October, though.

I expect history to look back on this commercial as a landmark of goofy thinking. It was the summer of 2009 and great resources and effort went into producing this commercial. Of course, the masses were easily entertained, not to mention in desperate need of fantasy. Many historians regard this commercial as the zenith of the Delusion Era in the United States.

I noticed that the magnet stopped at Wrigley field but despite running hard after it no Cubs were picked up.
