Big League Stew - MLB

Sadly, the Orioles just gave Kevin Millar the "it's not me, it's you" speech, ensuring that the Inner Harbor fan favorite will not be wearing the orange-and-black in 2009.

As a tribute to the Oriole who left his heart in Faneuil Hall, here's a behind-the-scenes look at the Orioles Magic cover that Millar engineered last summer at Camden Yards. The video is long, but completely worth it, if only to see George Sherrill's reaction to Millar saying the relief pitcher bears a resemblance to Vin Diesel. (It comes at the 4:13 mark.)

Be well, Mr. Millar, and may you always know what the magic means.

It really is too bad that the Orioles couldn't keep Millar. The problem was, of course, their other off-season acquisitions. They really do not have a need for another first base/DH type player since it appears that Scott will be DH and Huff will be at first base. The dude does have an aura about him, though, that pumps up any clubhouse he enters. Here's hoping that Millar continues to play well.

lol bring in him and Manny Cubbies!! They have a great relationship!!.....na but seriously he's a great club house guy, Millar that is, no doubt about that. I think he'll end up going to a contender.

I believe in Orioles magic. I think our club is heading in the right direction now. We have a big crop of young arms who will have a chance to get experience this season, plus we brought in some guys to help improve our speed and defense. a championship certainly won't come right away, so we all must be patient and let the club grow. We should take it one step at a time with the first step being to finish above .500. Look at what patience led to for the Rays, why not us eventually? As for Millar, he didn't blow you away with his stats, but he is very charismatic and has that leader type mentality that will be sorely missed in B-more. Just ask the 2004 Red Sox about that. I wish him much success wherever he may end up. This video was great, and it's the kind of spirit I really want to see on this team for the coming season. Forget what all the "experts" say, lets just try to make some noise and shake things up a bit. Go O's in '09!!!!!

I think Kevin Moodhe (sf10km youtube account) deserves credit for uploading this hilarious video on youtube....after all, Kevin is the creator of several funny phrases such as "things," "standard," and "What Up Ron Gant?" He is also a fantasy baseball champion, the future GM of the New York Mets, and a great friend of mine...congrats on having your video posted on Big League Stew! P.S. The only thing that could have made this video better is if Fred Mcgriff would have been in the beginning of it saying "THIS is the magic video that gets results!"

    Sadly? Are you crazy?
I don't think that the Orioles saying goodbye to a 37 year old who hit .234 last year is something to be sad about.
Blah blah intangiables blah blah clubhouse blah blah what a great guy...... He's not an everyday player anymore, and not nearly worth the money he probably wants.

I just Wish they'd bring him back as a bench coach or something. You can't have too many Kevin Millar's on your team, (well, maybe you can have TOO many but you get the point)

    Kevin:
I thank you for the time you have been here....the memories of watching you with my son on the firstbase side will be cherished. Thanks for signing my fathers jean jacket at Fanfest last year. I'll never forget how goofy you were when you came back from taking a bathroom break and we all clapped for your return..lol. I also had the priviledge of getting your jersey from the last game that was played at Yankee Stadium. If only I could have gotten you to sign that. You are a good guy and a very good first baseman. And you will always be my sons favorite slugger.
May God Bless you and your family and your future endeavors. I hope that you get picked up by another team and I get to see you play in Camden Yards and cheer you on again. You'll definately be missed and I feel that the O's made a huge mistake because you won't be there to share your hard work and passion to each and every one of the players. Thats the only way they will win...to have that passion and really want it like they did in the early '80s.

Is Jeremy Guthrie Asian? No, seriously - I never looked at him before, but seeing him in this video, he doesn't really look like a "Jeremy Guthrie".

The guy was a clown basking in the final days of his retirement with a team he knew stood zero chance of competing. I'm sure he was great to have in the club house for fun, but as far as contributing, he was average at best with us. Ever since he did that Red Sox saying "Go Red Sox!" commercial during the World Series while he was playing with us, this is what I have believed. Glad he's gone. He was roster filler.

Bring him back as a bench coach. He'd make a great manager some day, as he knows what it means to be a winner.

You know I think its better that they parted ways with him but he was a good clubhouse guy, no doubt about that and this video was pretty funny, especially George Sherill ("Vin Diesel looks like me" LOL).

Cameron, who you think Andy McFail knows what he's doing? He's trading for all the guys he got while with the Cubs after he watched them flame out in the big leagues. Good luck.
