Not that the Matt Holliday trade derby wasn't on before, but I think it's safe to officially declare it open season on the slugger after he basically just told the Rockies that it's not him, it's them. Holliday has one year remaining on his contract and it seems some are already adding him to the 112 players the Yankees will obtain through free agency.
Tell you what, though: If Holliday really wants to prove what he just said above, I know a little payroll-challenged team down on the Gulf Coast of Florida that could be a playoff mainstay if it gets him as a replacement for Cliff Floyd.
A big BLS head nod to MLB Trade Rumors for the redirect.

I don't know if I'd give up Niemann in a deal for Holliday. There is no denying that Holliday is an established player, especially as a hitter, but man Niemann.. filthiest curveball I've seen for a right hander in a while. Fastball just jumps out of the guys hand with relative ease, so not sure where the rotation stands as far as contracts right now, but.. Niemann has a lot of potential. The Rays are pretty much set for a long time, just needs to address the pen a little bit, as in guys developing another pitch to offset their fastball. James Shields is a stud, second best change-up in American League behind Fernando Rodney.

Matt Holliday along with Mark Texeria and some pitching and the Yankees will be on top of the world. Read this please. The 2 players above are coming into their prime and should be stallwarts for years to come. Something you won't have to worry about for a very long time. You will be the toast of New York.

take a cue from the braves (see teixeira, mark): you deal loads of talent to get a boras client for one year. he will not sign a new deal unless it's laughably absurd and will wait one more year to break the bank in free agency with the highest and most desperate bidder, thus leaving your team high and dry.
if one year of a guy with good numbers, a bad back, and scott boras as an agent is worth it to you and your team, then let the campaigning begin, i guess. otherwise, caveat emptor.
