Big League Stew - MLB

OK Red Sox fans, you just broke up with the equivalent of a girlfriend who was really, really great at first, but turned out to be a little a lot looney in the end. You're hurting. You're in pain. You're confused. You're going to feel like a huge part of yourself is missing for at least the next two months, if not longer.

So here's what I want you to do.

I want you to click past this jump.

I want you to click play on that video clip. (Don't watch it; it's only there for background music.)

Then I want you to look at the picture above, taken on your first date — Dec. 13, 2000.

I want you to think about the 274 home runs, the 868 RBI, the five seasons of .300+ and the eight All-Star appearances he racked up while wearing a Red Sox uniform.

I want you to think about the two World Series titles — your first since 1918 — that he helped you win.

I want you to think of all the silly things he did that caused you to smile, excuse his behavior and create your cute little "Manny being Manny" catchphrase. I want you to remember how he could make you laugh.

And even while I know it was something that Manny forced you to do and that you might have a new girlfriend who plays much better defense in left field, I want you to tell me you're not going to miss Manny Ramirez at all.

digg delicious

yeah manny is considered to be a pain, but i still think that the sox could have come away with a little more than Bay. Come on Manny is a baseball GOD. he can make as many phone calls from the monster as he wants as long as he kept hitting over the monster. The sox are in trouble now.

Sox fans had a great run with Manny, two championships. Nothing lasts forever. You are better off getting the cancer out of your clubhouse. Can't wait to see the circus come to town in LA. My sources tell me that they're already making "LA" do-rags in the garment district. God help us.

sorry Duk, I'm gonna have to disagree. Manny quit on the team in '06 and he was primed to do it again this year. We got a great contributor in Jason Bay, while unloading only that 20 million dollar ego, a fizzling pitching prospect and a solid outfielder with no place in Boston. Look, I love Manny, he's a great player and a lotta fun. However, when you consider all the shenanigans he put us through, and the fact that we got a very solid return on him (which, btw, wouldn't have happened through free agency), I won't miss Manny. Plus that 12.5 million we're saving next year? A guy named CC could take that if he wanted...

The Red Sox just returned to being the Yankees unwanted step child. If they are lucky enough to get to the playoffs again, and that's a huge if, who's going to pitch to Ortiz without Manny behind him in the batting order? Nobody, that's who. Good riddance to the Red Sox Nation, too. Grew tired of that bunch who went nearly a century without a title then had a bunch of fools running their loud mouths as if they won as many crowns as the Yanks. Big Mouths can zip it now. Put a fork in 'em, they're done. The Angels own them.

That loud-mouthed SOB has just caused the Sox to loose 6 out of the last seven games because of his BS and complete disregard for the team so he can satisfy his ego. He says, the Sox don't deserve him.
He right. They don't deserve him and his BS. Good hitter, lousy fielder and baserunner, and a terrible team mate. True, the Sox won't be the same, the rest of the division has made improvements since the WS, but the Sox have stayed pretty much the same. Some thing had to change, and Manny made that happen. Prediction: the Sox are done for this year. 'Too bad. But they are better off in the longrun. Manny is over his peak and is on the way down. It was time to dump the bum.

It seems a lot of teams were willing to take a chance on a not so great defensive left fielder
because of his power. The price was too steep for some and LA won the prize. Maybe some
of the other teams have a backup plan. Find a so-so left fielder with power. I'm thinking in
2-3 weeks, we see the return of Bonds.

Sad day in Boston. If you liked him or not, the sox are losing a first ballot hall a famer. I hate to see him go but I think Bay will help get the sox back on track and the drama will be gone. Bay is a solid player and right now has the same numbers as manny except for average. Now he has fans to back him and a better line-up to hit with. Numbers should only go up. He also plays better defense. Just glad they got something for Manny. I really love that we got rid of hansen. He blows. Thank you manny for the 7 plus years, the numbers you put up and the TWO

Now it's time to add Manny's name to that list.

By the way Older Than Moses Shaq how did those LA Lakers do against the Boston Celtics in the Finals? Probably explains your bitterness towards Red Sox Nation but it's just another display of Boston's dominance over LA. TitleTown Boston owns LA fool.

I am a huge Bosox fan and hate to see it come to this! Manny is a great player, but obviously it was time to go seperate ways. From a stat line it looks like they will get the same production from Bay, but Manny has been there in some real big moments and has proved he can handle it. I hope Bay can do the same.
I wish Manny the best in LA! He was a huge part of bringing 2 Championships our way and that should not be forgotten!
    Go Sox!

Interested to see how they handle manny standing at the plate after he hits the ball waiting to see where it gos before he runs to first and how much effort he puts into it a stun gun would get his a ss moving
I might be in the minority here believing that friendly fenway has helped his home run production I want to see what happens out there
