Devon La Russa, daughter of St. Louis Cardinals skipper Tony La Russa, doesn't have more than 100 followers on her @devonkai Twitter account. But she learned the hard way on Sunday night how quickly a controversial message can zoom around the Internet after she tweeted the following comment:
I saw a crack head doing "The Wash" today. Coincidence? I think not...
The reference, of course, would be to Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington, who has admitted to using cocaine during the 2009 season. Washington's entertaining-if-spastic reactions to great Rangers plays also often draw comparisons to a drug user from some of the less couth members of our society.
Devon, whose sister was a member of the Oakland Raiders cheerleader squad before getting hurt, deleted the original tweet after hearing several protests from Rangers fans. Then she offered up the message above, which probably counts as more of a backtracking than an actual apology. Apparently she has learned her lesson on using "crack head" as a "phrase I use." Whatever that means.
Anyway, as several people pointed out, La Russa probably wouldn't like people making fun of her father's DUI a few spring trainings ago, even if it was just "meant as a joke."
