Big League Stew - MLB

NEW YORK — The Yankees just held their workout day press conferences in the Great Hall of Yankee Stadium and there wasn't really much to talk about.

There was a little Cliff-CC chatter, a little talk about christening the new place with a World Series and about 300 questions thrown toward Alex Rodriguez(notes) that were all vaguely similar and produced nothing very noteworthy.

The highlights? The two Bronx hoodlums who stood outside the gate screaming "Jeeee-taaaaah! Come out and see your fans!" and the guerrilla reporter from Philadelphia who kept parachuting into each interview pod to aggressively ask about Jimmy Rollins'(notes) prediction of Phils in five.

To their credit, the Yankees smiled like they hadn't heard the question before (a few others had asked) and acted as if they didn't know it was coming. Jorge Posada(notes), though, was able to lace his response with a little bit of irritation and it was fun to watch.

"Nostradamus!" Posada said. "Jimmy Rollins, let him keep predicting."

Then, in response to the eager reporter's followup question: "He's been predicting a lot of things lately. Let's make him fail one."

The overall response to Rollins' prediction on The Jay Leno Show was a lighthearted one and a few said they expected it from a shorstop with a reputation for stirring the NY pot.

"If you guys know Jimmy, you know he loves that," said Mark Teixeira(notes).

Said Mariano Rivera(notes): "That's what he says. (But) what he says and what's going to happen is far from that. Coming from him, I'd expect nothing less."

Wait a minute. Did Mariano mean "expect nothing less" in an insulting way? Had the legendary reliever given the Philly TV reporter something to work with?

"In a good way," Rivera quickly clarified.

Aww, shoot.

I'm with Jorge on this one...
That is, of course, unless he hits the way he did on Sunday in Game 6.

Let's go Phillies. I do not have a vested interest either way, but I hate Yankees fans. They are too much like this guy.

SOOOO what? Man, that's the beauty of baseball; that there is zero time throughout the regular season and very minimal time during the playoffs for talk talk talk.... Each person on each team thinks they'll win the series... that's why they are there! But leave it to the media to blow something up way bigger than what it should be. I admire J-Roll for be real with himself that they'll actually lose a game or two.

Rollins should be careful about what pot he's stirring, the Yankees ain't no fuc*in Mets! If I was Rollins I'd keep my lips zipped, why piss off a team that's likely gonna stomp your azz into the ground to begin with????

What a typical Yankees wanker. Does he really think anyone asked similar question would even think their team would lose? Hey Jorge, let's hear YOUR prediction for the series. What's that you say? Phillies in 5? Oh...I guess I was wrong. Go Phillies!!!

The game sunday was worth the wait. The Yankees bats are patient and poised to strike. Everyone knows Philly can score but how does anyone but Cliff Lee get a win against our line-up. Hamels is to busy doing comcast commercials. Lidge is a disaster waiting to happen. I predict Yanks in 5. THE-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E-E- Yankees Win.

Phillies in 5. What a crock of sh#t. The Phillies barely survived the Colorado Rockies. They will be lucky to win 2 games against the Yankees. Cliff Lee can't pitch every game.

He's just putting fuel in the fire. Now with every Jimmy Rollin's strike out, Yankee Stadium is gonna be that much louder. And if you know anything about the sound that emanates from there, you'd know that it is The Brown Note. When you step up to bat, get ready to sh*t your pants Phillies...

So we start with 30 boxers. About 15 of them weigh 80 pounds or less. Another 10 or so weigh 100 pounds or less. Then there are 4 of them that weigh about 150 pounds or so and then there is one guy who weighs 250 pounds. They fight each other over a long season and the top two meet in the finals. Guess who will be in the finals and who is going to win more than likely?
Hmm, I think I know. So I'll pass on the MLB championship series and for the most part baseball as a whole.
Thank goodness the NFL is here and the NBA season is here.

I'm not gonna waste my time bashing Yankee Fans. But 1 things for sure, The Yankees will have to be on there best performance. These 2 clubs are evenly matched and you can almost guarantee a 7 game series. Go Phillies!

Jimmy Rollins making a prediction isn't going to make the Yankees try any harder...I'm sure they have enough motivation without the comments, so I see no harm in him spouting some confident words for his teammates to hear. Yankee fans....you make comments like "The Phillies can't throw Cliff Lee out there every game". Well, you can't run CC out there every night either. Burnett crumbles under pressure, and Petitte is no match for the Phil's offense either. This series is going 7.
