Big League Stew - MLB

If it seems like Jonny Gomes was everywhere during last night's celebration at The Trop, it's because he was. The man simply cannot be stopped. Make sure to watch all the way until the end to see his party dance for the ages.

Congrats to the Rays. Way to beat the Sox, and send their annoying fans home for the season. But, c'mon yahoo, there is another team in the World Series. Not one mention of the Phillies on the home page? Or in the blogs? Typical disregard of the future World Series champs. I haven't seen this much disregard since SportsCenter with their hockey segments. Does yahoo want the Rays to win that bad? Just like Fox overhyping the Dodgers against the Phillies, sleep on us for now. Then mention us with little fan fare when we win. We're used to it.

Jimmy -- We've been down here in Tampa covering the conclusion of the ALCS, which is why you see a discrepancy. However, you can be sure we'll have plenty of Phillies coverage in the week or so ahead.

I do not think it is disregard. It is announcing the news that JUST HAPPENED! Had the national league series gone longer there would have been more hype due to timing but also remember that the Rays story has a large amount of additinal factors the NL didn't have. We are first talking about one of the worst teams ever beating last years CHAMPS but also remember that the WAY this ended was amazing. The 7-0 comeback followed by Saturdays game where everyone said ...' ok this is over and the Rays would fold'. Then again they fell behind and came back and finally the eight inning when with bases loaded a rookie flat shut them down. I am a Dodger fan and only wish OUR rookie (Kershaw) could have pulled off the same thing.

Gomes is a loser, always has been a loser, and it is just an attribute to how much of a loser he is that he celebrated this way when he had absolutely no part in them winning this series. Sox definitely didn't play better then the Rays, but how about a cool story on Upton. Gomes in my opinion has always been Bush League.

I'm beginning to see why Mr. Gomes career has met its unfortunate decline, and I say unfortunate because he is awesome.

"Duk, Thanks for responding to my rant. I have to admit, I got a little excited about the lack of Phillies coverage today. I'm still a little numb over the homerism displayed by Fox. You guys do a great job, and I'm ready to cheer on the Phillies!!!!

CONGRATS FROM THIS RED SOX FAN. I want to offer my congrats to the Rays and the fans of the Rays for pulling off a hard fought series against my beloved Sox. The Sox lost to the better team. The Rays beat us in all aspects of the game, FAIR AND SQUARE. I have no issue with losing to this team. We just did not have quite enough to get it done but we did put up a good fight. Tampa, you deserved it. Good luck in the World Series. I want you to finish what you started. Rays over the Phillies in 6.

I'm a NY Fan, But I have to say, this is one of the best stories in Sports in the last decade. In a time of turbulent attacks on Steroid use and a WEEK commish, The Tampa Bay Rays Bring Light to a needed sport. A cinderella story, team out of nowhere, Plays the Right way, as a team and Gets it done. Any baseball fan can respect that. In losing even Papi tipped is cap to the Giant Rays. Way to go and good luck in the series, From a NY Fan that Respects.

BH....another Santa Rosan here. Gomes also sponsers several little league teams in Petaluma, CA. He also runs a baseball camp here locally where all the proceeds go to disease research. So once again...Gomes, while not the best player around....is not a loser.

The Rays made this season fun, and this from someone who is a die hard Red Sox fan. They kept us on our toes to the very end and made it a great show. As odd as it is to say, it actually feels okay to lose to guys like these. You can respect this team. They're not bought, they fought hard for what they made their own and I hope they go all the way with it. Worst to First... what a story. :) Way to go, Rays. Enjoy the ride!

If the Rays win the World Series, what are the odds of a player dying in a hooker's arms in the offseason? These guys are getting into '86 Mets party-hardy territory.

The Rays with their Frenchy beards and what looks like a squirrel taking a dump on their heads will go against a team that can play even dirtier than they can. It's going to be a bean ball series. Hope the Rays enjoy this one because they won't even make the playoffs next year. They are the Rockies made over.
