So you know that insurance commercial that shows Joe Torre in his new "lifestyle," doing things like drinking wheatgrass, carrying small dogs and trying to pitch a screenplay?
Why didn't they show him doing at least one cool thing, say, leaning against a rail at Santa Anita, a cigar in one hand and a racing form in the other? At least it'd have been accurate, seeing as how the horses that Torre owns are about as hot as his Dodger team.
From the Los Angeles Daily News:
The Dodgers aren't Joe Torre's only winner these days.
One of the Dodgers manager's racehorses won a $50,000 race at Santa Anita on Friday. Trimaran, owned in part by Torre and trained by Bobby Frankel, won the fifth race by one-half length under jockey Jose Valdivia.
It was the fourth victory in 11 races for the 4-year-old gray colt.
Torre is actually set up for a pretty big day today because just before the Dodgers will try to complete a sweep of the Cubs, another of his horses will be running in a big race. According to the LADN, that would be two-year-old Vineyard Haven, who is running in the $400K Champagne Stakes at Belmont. The horse is prepping for the Breeders Cup Juvenile, which will be held Oct. 25 at Santa Anita, the same day as a possible Game 3 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium.
