Big League Stew - MLB

As we all know by now, Joe Maddon is a very intelligent man. He likes to read, he enjoys his wine and he obviously knows a little something about this sport we call baseball.

Still, he keeps finding ways to show off the impressive breadth of his knowledge, demonstrating for us on Sunday the proper way to quickly disarm an obnoxious and heckling Phillies fan.

The method? Make fun of the beer he's drinking. (Brilliant!)

Per Maddon:

"I was actually giving a guy a hard time for drinking Coors Light in Philadelphia. We went back and forth with that, and I said where's the Schmidt's? At least some Rolling Rock. Don't be going with Coors Light. It's so unfashionable for a Philly dude.

"So I was all over him about that. We had a good time."

Maddon obviously isn't in the running for one of those Coors Light coaches commercials any more, but if he had his way, he'd use his soap box for a more serious cause. Namely, making sure the families and friends of the Rays were pestered a little less by the Philadelphia fans.

"The biggest part is my families. If we could do something about that, throwing mustard packs at my granddaughter is not very cool. The other part about it I'm good with."

"If you want to be vociferous with us, I am fine with that. If you want to have arguments about the Coors Light versus Rolling Rock, I'm good with that, but leave the families alone."

Yes, that was probably the first time on record that a baseball manager has ever used, at least correctly, the word 'vociferous.' No wonder he has a problem with Coors Light.

Joe...you sure it wasn't a snowball or a crutch that was thrown at her? What about a Mag-lite flashlight? How about a car door? Or maybe it was a whole car that was thrown at her?
Just stop making this cr8p up already...shut up...and admit that the Phils are handing it to your team.
And just because you act like you are intelligent doesn't mean you are!

Joe Maddon math is working. 9 = 8
9 guys made the 8 in the play offs.
9 guys won 8 games so far= 3 White Sox, 4 Red Sox and 1 Phillies
9 guys lost 7 games so far 1 to White Sox, 3 to Red Sox and 3 to Phillies. Game five will be their 8 loss.
    From worst to first?????
For that to happen they had to play with a first mentality. After a wonderful series against the Red Sox as they played really as "first" they came back to play as their usual "worst" against the Phillies.
I was rooting to Tampa but the Phillies will win it on game 5.

David...where is the kid? You Ray's fan have been throwing every bit of dignity out of the window trying to make yourselves look better. Keep trying...or don't. Does anyone really care? Hell, Ray's fans won't next week, why should we?

Chak, you my friend are an idiot. Joe Maddon has been living in Pennsylvania since before you were born (born in Hazelton, PA attended Hazelton High and then Lafayette College in Easton, PA). Talk about making generalizations without facts. I think living in Pennsylvania all his life may have taught him a little something about what its like in Philly. That said I still can't root for the Rays cuz they beat the Red Sox but some of you should do a little research before posting stuff publicly.

Wow you Phillies fans are a bunch of gloating big mouths. I am a fan of neither team and think that this World Series is a yawner and for that matter is probably the worst World Series I have seen. Nobody really cares that Philadelphia is winning anyway. I dont get why you think Maddon is crying about the game. He didn't say anything about the game at all. You are trash Philadelphia - just go ahead own up to your mullet.
